CHRISTIAN MEDITATION GROUP The Christian Meditation Group that was started

by Fr. Wm. Eckert continues to meet at St. Joseph's Church in the South Chapel. The 1:30 Wednesday group follows the teachings of John Main, OSB. Christian meditation is an ancient

form of Christian prayer which is not just reserved for monks or religious, but is available to all. Through silence, stillness and the simple

repetition of a prayer word people are discovering a deeper sense of the presence of Christ. All are welcome. For more information, please call Anne

Kozlowski at 413-684-6187

WEEKLY GIVING PROGRAM Our increased weekly giving program is very important to our financial stability. It is also

important to show our gratitude to God for our many gifts by responding to the needs of our parish.

If you have not returned your response envelope, please do so at the first opportunity.

ST. ANNE SOCIETY May 16th meeting will be held in the North Chapel

and begin at 6 p.m. The reason for the location change is that we will be conducting a double

program consisting of our annual baby shower and also a video of the “Sacred Relics of the Saints” by

Fr. Carlos Martins, CC. The video presentation summarizes the Church’s use of relics and is

scriptural, catechetical, and devotional in nature. It will be shown at 6:30.

Members are reminded that the most useful baby gifts are larger size diapers, baby formula, and baby food. Cash is also always acceptable and needed. All will be donated to the Pregnancy

Support Group here in Pittsfield. Refreshments will be served. Remember to wear your medals!! The business meeting will begin promptly at 6

with the video at 6:30. All members of the parish are welcome to come and watch the video.

Sacrificial Giving $7,223—Thank you!

Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Cemetery on Monday, May 28th at 11:00 AM, in the mausoleum area, rain or shine. Please

bring a chair.

May 13, 2018 7th Sunday of Easter This Sunday's Gospel is known as the "priestly prayer" of Jesus. The entire passage is Jesus

entrusting us to the Father. "When I was with them I protected them ? I guarded them," Jesus says. He asks his Father, "Keep them in your name." In this prayer of Jesus, we see the paradoxical tension of our life as Christians in the world. He anticipates struggle for the believer. He describes it in strong

words, words that could even appear frightening to the believer. "I gave them your word, and the world

hated them." Not only that, but with our eyes on eternal life, we "do not belong to the world." And yet in the midst of those realities, Jesus doesn't take us out of the world. On the contrary, "as you sent me

into the world, so I sent them into the world." Christians live in this tension daily. The call of

Jesus often defies nice, neat categories. We uphold justice as virtue yet are invited to love our enemies.

We offer gifts and generous hospitality to others while being reminded of the value of temperance.

We are called to teach the truth of right and wrong without losing sight of the beam in our own eye. It can be difficult to find the balance in our own lives, and a Church that preaches moral perfection can

easily fall under scrutiny when it falls short. In the midst of these complications, Jesus offers a

message of hope. He is well aware of the contradictions into which he sends us, and his

Father will equip us accordingly. "Consecrate them in truth." "Keep them from the evil one." Jesus does

not abandon us to the tensions of our time but remains near at hand by the grace alive in his

Church.
