Principal’s Report Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a great weekend celebrating the Junee Rhythm and Rail last weekend.

Catholic School’s Week We had a beautiful Catholic School’s Week Paraliturgy on Friday that Mr. Masterson organised. I have shared here with you the reflections from our students on being at this school. They are thoughtful and offer a great insight into what it means to come to St Joseph’s Junee.

Kinder: Kindergarten have really enjoyed their time at St Joseph’s. We asked the students what they liked about our school.

Michael: We like being in our new classroom. We are excited to see what the new school will be like. Eliza: We like going to church and learning new prayers. We like colouring in and painting. In Year Four, we are grateful for belonging to our Catholic School. We worked together to create this Acrostic Poem. (Read by Matika and Kane) Caring teachers in our school. Activities altogether. We have a wide range of technology practices and these are being developed constantly. Our new school, that is under construction, will provide bigger, better and exciting learning opportunities for us all. One of the students in our class recently summed up our school, St Joseph’s… “It is a better place for me because the students are welcoming and I feel safe and a part of this outstanding school.” Sign on the Front Gate:

You will notice a “No Entry” sign at the front of the school, on the Church fence. Thank you for abiding by the directions on the

sign, which prohibits entry between 8.00 and 4.00, unless you are a delivery, emergency or disabled vehicle. Sympathy: We extend our sympathy to Nikki and her family and the Bradley family on the loss of their Mum and Nanna. Janice was a much loved member of our school community and we will miss her presence when we take our students to the hospital to sing. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family and extended family of Janice. Joey’s Family Catch Up – Friday 16th March Due to a previous commitment I am unavailable. I hope everyone has a great night. Annual Report: Each year I do an Annual Report. Part of the report is a school satisfaction survey. I would be really appreciative if you could fill in the survey and return it ASAP please? If I don’t have any replies, I will assume that everyone is 100% happy and my report will reflect this. Please mark each box with the number of people answering the survey. Thank you for your feedback. Your responses are anonymous.

Maths Update Term 1 Last week staff at St Josephs worked on analysing an assessment called the MAI (Maths Assessment Interview). The data that was collected across the whole school showed Place Value as an area of concern in Mathematics. Place Value is about reading, writing, ordering and interpreting numbers. Staff agreed to use their Math Maintenance time over the next two weeks to focus on this area and target each class and students needs. Ask your children what activities they have been doing in class to support their learning. Some include bead string challenges and human number lines, largest number sort, 10 more/10 less and partitioning numbers. A few pictures above show the different ways this was out into practice.

The Premiere's Reading Challenge 2018 opened yesterday. This will be our second year participating in the Challenge. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, and to read more widely. Students in K-2 will log all the books read in their classroom with their teachers. Students in 3-6 can read at home or at school and will have a reading log to keep track of their reading. Mrs Chisholm will help us in the library by putting books into reading challenge groups. K-2, 3-4, 5-6. Classes will also have books from the reading challenge list in their classrooms. I am happy to log reading onto the system for students if books are logged with Title and Author onto either their PRC reading log or home reading log. Please bring logs/reading diaries to me when you have read at least 5 books. If you would like to log your reading in yourself your log on from last year will remain the same. Please let me know if you need this information again. Premiere's Reading Challenge https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

Happy Reading, Bianca Brady
