We are delighted to welcome each and every one who has come to worship with us today. Whether you’re a longtime parishioner, a newcomer, or just vis-iting, know that our desire is to extend God’s loving presence to all. If you would like to register, you can download the registration form from our website, www.stmartha.com, or find a copy in the narthex on the Welcome Kiosk.

Dear Parish Family, This week, the Archdiocese and the 14 other diocese in Texas re-leased the names of priest who have been credibly accused of abusing minors. It was shocking to see so many names of priests in Texas who have betrayed the trust of the people they promised to serve. It has been a tough couple of weeks for me preparing to

see this list because the only acceptable number of priest who have abused is zero. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I am hurting, and I know you are too. I want to invite you that if you need to talk to someone, please call the parish office, and we’ll make sure a priest, a deacon, or a spiritual director can see you and walk with you in your pain. Together, we pray for all who have been hurt by the terrible abuse scandal that has rocked the Church, and we pray that this never happens again. Later this month, the Holy Father will meet with bishops from all over the world to discuss a plan for the Church to put an end to these senseless crimes. Let us join our prayers together that this meeting may be fruitful so that no one is ever hurt again from these types of situations. United in prayer, Fr. TJ

Welcome

Vision Statement: Baptized into Christ Jesus, we worship as one and reach out to all.

Sunday Readings and Reflection Today’s Readings

First Reading — I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD (Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19). Psalm — I will sing of your salvation (Psalm 71). Second Reading — If I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing (1 Corinthians 12:31 — 13:13 [13:4-13]). Gospel — No prophet is accepted in the prophet’s hometown (Luke 4:21-30). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

An Ongoing Mission In his hometown synagogue, Jesus’ neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Surely the people know who he is. The carpenter’s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street. Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the ancient prophets Elijah and Elisha the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God’s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all. In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul re-minds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In to-day’s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus’ mission cannot be con-tained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new chal-lenges. We are called to this same perseverance in the name of love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Effective 01/01/2019, CMG Safe Haven online training is replacing all VIRTUS trainings. No more live trainings; all trainings will only be online and in the comfort of one’s home. This training consists of three-vignette style-training videos approximately 60 minutes total, which includes a criminal background check and available in English and in Spanish. New volunteers: 18 yrs. of age, and older must complete the new training, and com-

plete the background check prior to volunteer service. Time for ap-proval may be approximately two weeks or less. Everyone must re-new the Safe Environment training every five years to continue volun-teer service.

plete refresher trainings until the 5th year anniversary date. This new system will allow you to complete this training 60 days prior to the 5th year anniversary date.

Once met the 5-year anniversary date, you must complete this training and background check. You will need to log into CMGConnect at https://GalvestonHouston.CMGConnect.org with your previous per-sonal VIRTUS user id and 1234 as the password. Once logged into your CMGConnect account, you will be able to change the pass-word and update your information. If you do not remember your user id, please contact us.

If your training has expired, you will need to complete the new train-ing and complete the background check prior to continuing or return-ing to your volunteer service. You will only be able to continue/return to your service upon approval from the Office of Child and Youth Protection.

The time for approval may be approximately two weeks or less. Check with our Parish Safe Environment Coordinators for approval or status of your account.

Around the Community 5 Community Life Ministries

Today we rejoice and celebrate World Day for Consecrated Life. Over the years, many men and women have chosen to live out their baptismal vocation by professing the evangelical counsels of poverty, chasti-ty, and obedience. They do this by joining a religious congregation, a secular insti-tute, or through private vows. We pray for these people, especially St. Martha parish-

ioner Christina Ann Girau, of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We ask God to bless our Church with others who will dedicate their lives to God’s service.
