Please see the note from Fr. Bill on the last page of this bulletin.
“Living” Our Gifts In addition to the Christmas gifts we exchange as signs
of our love and thankfulness for the people in our lives, we each receive many gifts that are not wrapped. These God-given gifts - especially our personalities, personal and spir-itual strengths, and other abilities - help to make us the unique persons we are. As children, we were taught to share our gifts (the family gaming console comes to mind!) While sharing, we learn how fulfilling it can be... to help younger siblings to learn how to use something, or share quality time with our parents or grandparents.
While life includes significant challenges, we can still sing “Joy to the World” as we celebrate the greatest gift of God’s love in the human form of Jesus Christ! We experi-ence this divine love most often through the love and kind-ness of those around us, especially in our community of faith. Some of the greatest joys in the world include know-ing how God has blessed us abundantly, and experiencing the Lord using our gifts to make a difference in someone’s life or in the world!
Our parishes are communities built of the “living stones” of parishioners sharing their gifts, talents, and faith to care for one another (1 Peter 2:4-6). More than just being a person in a crowd, we are called to “live our gifts” by us-ing and sharing them with the Church and the world. As Pope Francis loves to say, we need to be “field hospitals for sinners”, not exclusive hotels for those who think they’re more religious. Each of us is a work in progress, blessed by God yet still working on how to live that out.
To really live the values of love, welcoming, compas-sion, and boldness which we proclaim in our Plainville-Wrentham Collaborative Parishes, we need lots of people who are open to discovering more about their personal gifts and sharing these with the parish community. If it was only the handful of clergy and staff who were actively involved, our parishes would be spiritually impoverished communities where only some people experience God’s love. Thankfully, the more parishioners we have “living their gifts” in our community, the more we can bring Jesus Christ’s healing love to all who need it.
One very fruitful way of learning and growing in aware-ness of God’s love and the gifts he has given us is to partici-pate in an adult faith experience, such as a Cursillo weekend retreat or our Discovering Christ evening program. To learn more about Cursillo, contact Deacon Joe or Maggie Hoa-gland on our Pastoral Team. There are Discovering Christ pamphlets in your bench - please read or take one if you are interested.
May this Christmas be blessed with many gifts showing you love: wrapped gifts and the many blessings God has given you! Like the gift of Jesus’ birth, your Parish Family wants to show God’s love to you and invites you to join us in showing Jesus’ love to others, actively “living your gifts”.
Christmas Collection Merry Christmas from all the priests of the Archdio-cese of Boston. The Christmas collection supports the retirement, medical and financial needs of the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston. These priests have giv-en their lives to faithfully serve Christ, the Church and you. For more information please visit www.clergyfunds.org. Thank You!
The offices of St. Martha and St. Mary will be closed on, Wednesday, December 25, Christmas Day and on Thursday, December 26. The offices will reopen
on Friday, December 27. Merry Christmas from all of us at St. Martha Parish
and St. Mary Parish! May your world be filled with warmth and good cheer
this Holy season, we wish you a joy-filled, blessed Christmas.

Each year, Maggie Hoagland, our Director of Faith Formation for Children helps the children in grades 1– 6 of our collaborative to perform a traditional Christmas Pageant. Held at St. Martha Parish in Plainville, the Christmas Pag-eant was presented last Sunday to parishioners, families and friends. All the children do an amazing job telling the story of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ and helps put everyone in the Christmas Spirit. Thank you to Maggie and to all the children who participated in this joyous event!
Discovering Christ is a seven– week experience where anyone and everyone, from the baptized in the pews to the unbaptized, is invited to hear the Good News and person-ally encounter Jesus Christ. Plan to join us each Wednesday at St. Martha starting just before Lent on February, 12th for what promises to be a Fun and Trans-formative experience!
Dear parishioners of Saint Martha Parish and Saint Mary Parish, Forget about Waldo! Many of you have been wondering instead ‘Where’s Fr. Bill?’ I can finally provide an answer to that ques-tion as I returned to full-time ministry at Saint Michael Parish, Hudson at the beginning of Advent. I will be assisting Father Ren Tocci who was a parishioner of Saint Patrick Parish, Stone-ham when he discerned his vocation to priesthood. I was hon-ored to vest him with his priestly vestments on his ordination day. We have come full circle as he has now welcomed me warmly to Hudson. I am grateful to the parishioners of Saint Martha Parish and Saint Mary Parish for their support in prayer over the past seven months when I was dealing with a depression that began with the diagnosis of my mother’s Alzheimer’s Disease twenty years ago and increased over the course of the tragic course of events that unfolded within the Archdiocese of Boston over the past twenty years. I am grateful for the therapeutic treatment I received at Saint John Vianney Center in Pennsylvania and I return to ministry in perfect health. I feel better physically, emo-tionally and spiritually than I have in many years! Please continue to remember me in prayer as I return to the
parish ministry that I love. You are in my prayers during this Advent Season as we prepare to welcome Jesus ever more fully into our hearts at Christmas. God is so good!
