PARENT SESSIONS —Our next Parent Session in our Parent Education Series is on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 9:45-10:45 am. Just a reminder that these sessions are required for all parents of students preparing for a sacra-ment. Sessions are open to all interested adults in the parish. FIRST RECONCILIATION—If you have a student preparing for First Reconciliation please continue working on your books as we enter into the holiday season. If you have not yet begun working through the book, now is a good time to start! There is still plenty of time to complete the prepara-tion without the stress of trying to condense the process into a couple of weeks. The 1st Reconciliation ceremony is on Saturday, January 26 @ 10:00 am. CHRISTMAS BREAK— There will be no Religious Classes on December 23 or December 30. Classes will resume on Sunday, January 6. On behalf everyone at St. Martin’s, have a blessed Christmas!
THANK YOU!! Thank you for your generosity to the Thanksgiving Food drive! We collected over 500 lbs. of donated items for the Harvest of Hope Pantry. All donations were very well received and much appreciated!
ANOTHER THANK YOU Thank you to ALL who donated handmade items, baked goods and donated time and service to the Christmas market and the Christmas Potluck!! The market made $2,378.18 for our parish and the potluck brought joy and fellowship to all who attended.
THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION OF NORTHERN COLORADO
The Catholic Foundation will match up to $10,000 in a fund set up for St. Martin de Porres parish. This money will be available for distribution to the parish simply at the request of the Pastor after consulting his finance council. We have received $5,000 at this time and it has been matched with another $5,000 from the Catholic Foundation. We are in need of other donors to take advantage of these matching funds to help the needs of our parish. For more information contact Father Jim or call the Catholic Foundation at 303-468-9885
Third Sunday of Advent
My Olympic sport is worrying. I’m the best who ever played the game. What makes me particularly versatile is that, the very second one worry is resolved, I can leap immediately to the next one, and the next one. It’s an arrogant way to live, if you think about it. I never stop to give thanks when the first worry turns up solved. I call up the next one in the queue and begin massaging it, marinating it, simmering it over an endlessly warm burner. I look at every possible way things can go fatally awry. I’m pretty sure it’s up to me to keep the planets in their fixed orbits. When turbulence bounces the plane around I think I need to get up there and take over. Have no anxiety about anything, says Paul. Easy for him to say? Well, let’s see. Prior to his imprisonment in Rome (the location of this letter, probably around the year 62), Paul had been shipwrecked, snake-bit, stoned with rocks, and left to languish in prisons in Caesarea and Ephesus. Then, the grossly unstable Emperor Nero of Rome started his persecution of the early church two years after Paul was imprisoned there. One day—or was it night?—the Roman guards took Paul from his cell, and led him to the beheading block. Had he trembled in fear of this moment? Had he worried it to death all the years before it happened? We know this: while in chains in Rome, St. Paul exhorted us to pray, and offer thanks, and tell God what we need. And then, he promised, the peace of Christ will guard us. I’ll bet it guarded him.
How is anxiety stealing my peace? Kathy McGovern ©2018 www.thestoryandyou.com
