You will only be required to help out once every six weeks for about an hour. Please call Sally at 715-276-7100 if you can help. A wonderful way to give back to God!

Special Centennial Recognition Weekend

This weekend please check out the boards in the gathering space acknowledging the founding families and oldest living parishioners of St. Mary’s of the Lake Parish. These are some very special people who are a big part of our history. God Bless them.

Welcome!

Rejoice brothers and sisters, as we serve God in the New Year. May our hearts overflow with love for God and for one another. Reach out in Christian love to welcome one another.

Parish Tithing This month our parish has given $1,035.00 split equally to the Christian Food Pantry in Townsend, Avail Domestic Shelter and Hope Life Center in Antigo. This amount is a sacrificial gift of 5% of the money in our regular collections in December.

The Reverse Collection We are passing the baskets for the Reverse Collection this weekend. Please bring your food items to mass next weekend. These items will be donated to the Christian Food Pantry in Townsend. Thank you!

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time January 20, 2019 Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary’s of the Lake: This past Sunday we celebrated the Feast of the BAPTISM OF THE LORD, which is seen as a formal ending of our Christmas Season. At the same time it is the beginning of the Church Ordinary Time. As you may recall, Christmas Season includes 3 main phases: ADVENT focusing on Preparation, CHRISTMAS DAY and days after focusing on Celebration, and THE EPIPHANY focusing on Manifestation (of Jesus to Jews & non-Jews, to people near & far). Indeed, our Lord was born for all. You may also recall, just a few days after Christmas Day (December 27 to be exact) we celebrated the FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY.

Speaking of the HOLY FAMILY, we may be tempted to see the Holy Family as not really part of our human family. They were often portrayed in the holy pictures as so holy, so perfect, so unreal: All wearing shining haloes. However, looking behind those perfect pictures, we have to say that: Despite their unique positions & missions in God’s plan of salvation, the Holy Family (from the human point of view) also shared the same common lot with all the ups & downs of all human families! Both Joseph & Mary were poor, simple people --leading a common, simple life in an ordinary family. However, this poor & ordinary couple was HOLY in a sense that they always wanted to discern & fulfill the Will of God. With the grace of God, together they helped create an atmosphere in the family appropriate for the development of the child Jesus, especially in the 3 major areas: wisdom, age and grace.

Oftentimes when I visited a family, I easily saw a nice family picture on the wall of the living-room. The portraits were usually done professionally& almost perfectly: Everyone looked so very nice, so good, and so perfect... just as the picture of the Holy Family, which looks so nice, so good and perfect. However, we know, behind the ‘perfect’ family picture is the ordinary, day-to-day living of our families with all the ups & downs of life: Life of joy & excitement, satisfaction & fulfillment as well as struggles, dissatisfaction & un-fulfillment, etc. But we are all called to discern & fulfill the Will of God. With the grace of God, parents & older people are called to create & nourish an atmosphere in the family, appropriate for the development of the children –especially in the 3 major areas: age, wisdom & grace. Children are called to honor their parents and the elderly. Husbands and wives are called to love & care for one another. All families are indeed called to be holy --with the grace of God. May it be so!

Fr. Philip

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children, January 22, 2019

God our Creator, We give thanks to you, who alone have the power to impart the breath of life as you form each of us in our mother’s womb; grant, we pray, that we, whom have made stewards of creation may remain faithful to this sacred trust and constant in safeguarding the dignity of every human life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

God’s Gift! Every good and perfect gift comes from above. -James 1:17 On the weekend of January 19th & 20th please pick up a baby bottle to help support the Hope Life Center in Antigo. Please fill your bottle with coins, bills or checks. The Center provides physical, emotional and spiritual support in a confidential, judgment-free environment. They offer free pregnancy testing, limited OB ultrasound, counseling, abortion recovery support, and parenting education. The Baby Bottle’s will be collected on February 16th & 17th. Thank you in advance for helping with God’s little gifts!

Closing of our Centennial Year! We will be closing our year of celebrations for our parish’s 100th Anniversary on the weekend of February 9th & 10th. It has been a very exciting year filled with many activities: brunches, book club, fish fry, Novena, Special Masses, Eucharistic Adoration, Bingo, pie & ice cream social, parade float, trip to Holy Hill, Anniversary Mass with Bishop Ricken & dinner, open houses at the Chapels, an Ecumenical Concert, an Advent evening, and a recognition Mass for our founding families. Please visit our parish website for pictures of the events! Thank you to our Centennial Committee for all your planning and hard work and to all the parishioners and visitors who helped us celebrate our Anniversary year!

On Sunday, February 10th after the 9am Mass we will have a brunch in the church hall. Everyone is welcome! Please sign up by the elevator entrance so we can make plans for the food. Hope to see you there!

Thank You! To everyone who helped take down the Christmas decorations at our parishes. Your

help and kindness is greatly appreciated!
