HOW GOD INTENDS US TO LIVE
Today’s readings are again directed to believers,
communities of faith. As in last week’s reading, Amos
confronts us with a condemnation of those whose lives
are focused on pleasure and self-absorption. The psalm
contrasts that focus with the Lord’s—justice for the
oppressed; food the hungry; freedom for captives; sight
to the blind; raising of those who are bowed down; lov-
ing the just; protecting strangers, orphans, and the wid-
ow; and by doing so, thwarting the way of the wicked.
Timothy urges the pursuit of righteousness, devotion,
faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Luke tells the fa-
miliar tale of the wealthy man and the poor beggar at
his doorstep, who experience life very differently in
this world and in the next. We are once again being
given clear indications about how God intends for us to
live our lives.

Question of the Week
Adults: What are the “rewards” of caring for the needs of the poor? Children: What is one thing you and your family could do this week to help those who are poor or sick?
St. Vincent de Paul Society Reflection Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
On September 27, the Church celebrated the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.” Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish. In the month of September, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to “bring good news to the poor,” by assisting families, providing food, for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank you!!
Red River Revel 2019, Sept. 28—Oct. 6.
We have been asked to continue our long standing tradition with a Food Booth again this year. St. Mary’s has used this as a fundraiser and fellowship in our community for many years. Our Food Booth will serve chicken strips,
breaded deep fried shrimp, curly fries, and cookies again this year. Help and volunteers are needed throughout this event. Sign-up sheets are available in Vandegaer Hall. There are still many spots to be filled. For additional information, please contact Steve Cadwell (318) 426-9818.
