At the Kiss of Peace our practice is for each of us to greet the person to our right and left with the bowing of our head, hands held in a prayerful clasp or crossed on the chest, while offering each other the seasonal Christian greeting, Christ is in our midst!and responding, He is and shall be!Please remember that Holy Communion is reserved for those Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have appropriately prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and Confession to receive the Holy Mysteries of the Church. The bread (antidoron, which means in placeof the gifts) which we share after Communion and at the end of the Liturgy is for all. Being mindful we are in church, let us always remember to… ...be quiet and attentive. Let us sing, pray, stand, sit, kneel and respond where responses are indicated. Let us not talk, look around, text message, play games, etc. Especially let us work at this in the Communion line and when in line to venerate the Cross and depart. If we cannot hear the post- Communion prayers being chanted during our church departure, we are way too noisy. ...refrain from eating, drinking or chewing gum. Sunday, July 17, 2016 To all who are present with us this morning,

Welcome! Thank you for being here.

Please join us for coffee and... in the Fellowship Hall following the Divine Liturgy.

You May Find the Text of the Divine Liturgy beginning on the bottom of page 91 of the Service Book (gold embossed cross on the reddish brown cover) or in the green-spiral-bound book; sheet music can be found in the 8.5” x 11” large, spiral-bound booklet.

At the Kiss of Peace our practice is for each of us to greet the person to our right and left with the bowing of our head, hands held in a prayerful clasp or crossed on the chest, while offering each other the seasonal Christian greeting, “Christ is in our midst!” and responding, “He is and shall be!”

Please remember that Holy Communion is reserved for those Chrismated Orthodox Christians who have appropriately prepared themselves through prayer, fasting and Confession to receive the Holy Mysteries of the Church. The bread (anti’doron, which means ‘in place’ of the gifts) which we share after Communion and at the end of the Liturgy is for all.

THE EPISTLE READING Epistle of St. Paul to St. Titus (3:8-15)

T ITUS, MY SON, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are

excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

THE HOLY GOSPEL According to St. Matthew (5:14-19)

T HE LORD SAID TO HIS DISCIPLES: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand,

and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father Who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” _______________________________________________________

“Food on the Hill” Lunch Ministry “Food on the Hill” is the name that has been attached to the lunch for those in need that will be prepared and served free of charge on the first Tuesday of each month . Our Men’s Fellowship has continued to take on the work of providing a bit of “daily” bread to those who can benefit from it. At the most recent luncheon, we served 22 meals to members of the community.

The next “Food on the Hill” lunch is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.

Anyone who would like to support “Food on the Hill” in any capacity you would like, should contact Gus Flizanes. Please make checks out to “St. Micha el’s Church” with “Food on the Hill” on the memo line. If you can possibly also help provide transportation on the day of the luncheon, please contact Gus.

Spring cleaning is in full swing! Bring the treasures you are discarding to church for our...

- Flea Market / Ethnic Food -- Bake Sale -

- Used Book Sale -- Gyro (Meat or Fish) Sale -

Saturday, August 6th 9 AM to 2 PM

We have a lot of room downstairs to store your items. You may also want to rent a table for $10 to sell your things. NO CLOTHING WILL BE ACCEPTED. Come and help or just enjoy the day with us. Donations of baked goods will also be greatly appreciated. Any questions please ask Mary Haiden or Valerie Flizanes. (Yes, this is on the Great Feast of Transfiguration. The events calendar had its demands this year. Let us all be sure to gather on the evening of Friday, August 5, to celebrate the Vesperal Divine Liturgy for the Feast, especially given the ‘irregularity’ of this event’s scheduling.)

CONTACT Valerie Flizanes ((724) 863-4443) if you can help set up for the Flea Market on Friday, August 5. We also need a person to take over coordination of the Used Book Sale. (Thank you to Mary Haiden who first had that idea and lead the effort.)

HAVE YOU NOTICED the TREE in the hallway decorated with WHITE TAGS?

Please stop by and take a tag (or two) as a reminder of what you can buy as a way of supporting the St. Michael’s Food Event, which is planned for Sunday, September 18th. It will be greatly appreciated by the wonderful cooks and bakers of St. Michael’s, as they prepare the food for the community fundraising event.

Bring your items and place them under

the “Food Tree”! _____________________________________

It’s Back! What’s Back?

St. Michael’s Shish-Kebab* Dinner

(Sunday, September 18) Last Tuesday evening we held our first organizational meeting to determine the path that this year’s September fund-raiser would take. And lo and behold we find that after all these years and the many forms that the event has taken over the decades, we have arrived where we first began — St. Michael’s Shish-Kabob! Oh, it won’t be exactly the same—who could even remember all the details—but we’ve decided to go “simple” this year and try something we’re familiar with but have not done for a long time. The details of our plan will be worked out relatively quickly as time is already short. But time is not quite as short as we thought it would be as the date for the dinner has been pushed back one week to Sunday, September 18. (Lest anyone feel it in any waydisrespectful, we thought it best not tohold our event on September 11.)So even though our planning is just beginning, you may already sign up for how and where you will volunteer to work on our Shish-Kebab Dinner Team. Sign up sheets may be found in the vestibule at the main entrance to our church.

CALEB’S CUPBOARD is in great need of contributions. It is located in the big chest you see as you come through the main entrance of our church.. It is a very simple way to help our hungry neighbors. If you could bring in a few cans of food, cereal, pasta, paper goods or other nonperishables when you come to church, you will be making a BIG difference for someone in need. Also, please check that the goods you bring are “reasonably” close in time to the expiration date. Thanks!

From “A GUIDE TO PARISH ETIQUETTE” (page 7) (Department of Marriage and

Parish Family Ministry) Children in Church Christ said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14) It is possible for young children to remain in church throughout a service if they are taught to be quiet and respectful. Many parishes have cry rooms or nurseries for those who are too small to be quiet throughout the whole Liturgy. Please be respectful to those around you if your child becomes fussy or out of control, and remove him from the nave of the church quickly. Breastfeeding mothers need to be discreetly modest and, when necessary,

(Secretary Debbie will be in the office this week on Monday and Friday from 9 AM to 2PM and Thursday from 12-5.)

use the available facilities such as a cry room for nursing. If in doubt, check with the parish priest for his recommendation. If a very young child needs a snack, please clear away any leftover pieces. However, the child should not have anything in his mouth when he comes to Holy Communion. It is not acceptable at any time to chew gum in church. It is never appropriate to allow a child to run down the aisles, play loudly, or carry toys that make noise. Plan to have your children use the restroom and get a drink before church begins, and don’t allow them to come and go continually. Eventually, children will be able to spend longer times in the Liturgy. That is where they should be, but remember the reason for coming to church is to pray and worship. Consider bringing your children into the church at a time when the Liturgy is finished to “practice” church behavior. Teach them that they are visiting God’s very special house, and they will need to have very special manners there. ________________________________
