3rd SUNDAY OF ADVENT

GOD'S WORD TODAY The disparity between the kind of world envisioned by Isaiah and the Lord Jesus and the kind of world we see around us can evoke one of two responses. Either we throw our hands up in despair, feeling as if there is nothing we can do to stop terrorism, war,

violence, and disease, or we allow these images to inspire us to greater dedication to be people who will not stand still for injustice. We know that in God's kingdom, as Isaiah tells us, we will be met "with joy and gladness," and that "sorrow and mourning will flee." Until we reach the blessedness of that kingdom, where "the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them," we must heed the words of Saint James, who urges us to be patient. Christian patience is not passive. Christian patience is marked by the admission that God's kingdom will probably not be established this afternoon or tomorrow. While acknowledging this and patiently awaiting that kingdom, we are charged with the task of working with one another to eradicate injustice so that at least a glimmer of God's kingdom will pierce the darkness of sin and death. STEWARDSHIP OF TIME & TALENT

Our dear parishioners, Frank and Carmela Cundari have moved recently to Toms River, NJ, where they will reside near their son and his family.

Frank and Carmela have been faithful parishioners of St. Nicholas Church for many years. Frank was member of the Buon Pastore Italian community, Holy Name Society and Parish Council.

He was as Lector, usher and helped to count the collection on Mondays. He also acted as “Peter” in the Passion Play in the 2010 and 2011 Easter presentations. They were always committed to our parish family and faithful to the Lord and His church,

a beautiful example of STEWARDSHIP for us all to follow. As they will be residing not so far away from our parish, we count of receiving a surprise visit

once in a while as they will remain a part of our St. Nicholas family.

May the Lord bless their lives with much health and love.

This week 2nd collection will be for the RETIREMENT FUND
