BLESSING OF THE ADVENT WREATH
Lord God, we praise you for your Son Jesus Christ who is Emmanuel, the hope of people, the wisdom that teaches and guides us, and the Savior of every nation. Lord God, let your blessing come up-on us as we light the candles of this wreath. May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christ’s promise to bring
us salvation. May he come quickly and not delay. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER as we light the SECOND candle on Advent wreath
The prophets kept alive the hope of Israel. As a sym-bol, we light these two candles. The old tree is sprout-ing new shoots because God has given us new life. May each of us, Lord, be open to new beginnings, to flourish, to be reborn, and to keep hope lit in our hearts. Come quickly, Lord Jesus, Come our Savior!
ADVENT WREATH THE ORIGIN is uncertain. There is evidence of pre-Christian Germanic peoples us-ing wreathes with lit candles during the cold and dark De-cember days as a sign of hope in the future warmth and ex-tended-sunlight days of Spring. THE SYMBOLS: The laurel signifies victory over per-secution and suffering; pine, holly, and yew, immortali-ty; and cedar, strength and healing. The circle of the wreath, which has no beginning or end, symbolizes the eternity of God, the immortality of the soul, and the ev-erlasting life found in Christ. All together, the wreath of evergreens depicts the immortality of our soul and the new, everlasting life promised to us through Christ, the eternal Word. THE FOUR CANDLES represent the four weeks of Advent. The purple ones symbolize the prayer, pen-ance, sacrifices and goods works undertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, the Sunday of rejoicing, because the faithful have reached the midpoint of Advent and are close to Christmas. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the ex-pectation our Lord’s first coming into the world and His second coming to judge the living and the dead.
The light signifies Christ, the Light of the world. A white candle, placed in the middle of the wreath, repre-sents Christ and is lit on Christmas Eve.

ADVENT CONFESSIONS Advent is a time of preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ, our Savior. We prepare materi-ally, decorating houses and buying gifts for Christmas. We also prepare spiritually. One of the preparations is to prepare our hearts. As we wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we reconcile with God and other people. There are confessions 30 minutes before all Sunday masses. Please go to confession before Christmas, so that when Christmas comes, we will have Christmas trees and gifts, and our hearts reconciled with God and others.

la corona de Adviento. Los profetas mantenían encendi-
da la esperanza de Israel. Noso-
tros, como un símbolo, encendemos estas dos
velas. El viejo tronco está rebrotando se estre-
mece porque Dios se ha sembrado en nuestra
carne... Que cada uno de nosotros, Señor, te
abra su vida para que
brotes, para que flo-
rezcas, para que naz-
cas y mantengas en
nuestro corazón en-
cendida la esperanza.

CONFESIONES DE ADVIENTO
Adviento es el tiempo de preparación por la venida
de Cristo nuestro Salvador. Preparamos material-
mente; decorando nuestras casas y comprando los
regalos para la Navidad. Pero también nos prepara-
mos espiritualmente. Una de estas preparaciones es
preparar nuestros corazones.
Tenemos confesiones 30 minutos antes de las
misas el sábado y el domingo.
Tendremos confesiones 30 minutos antes de las
misas de lunes 18 al viernes 22 de diciembre.
Tendremos un SERVICIO de RECONCILIA-
CION con confesiones, el miércoles, 13 de di-
ciembre.
Favor de confesarse para que cuando celebramos el
nacimiento de Jesús durante en la Navidad además
de decoraciones, luces, árboles navideños, regalos,
también tendremos los corazones reconciliados con
Dios y con el prójimo.

Mc 1:1-8 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. A voice of one crying out in the desert: "Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths." John the Baptist ap-peared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were go-ing out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jor-dan River as they acknowledged their sins. John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. And this is what he proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. 62 What is the soul? The soul is what makes every individual person a man: his spiritual life-principle and inmost being. The soul causes the material body to be a living hu-man body. Through his soul, man is a creature who can say “I” and stand before God as an irreplaceable individual. [362-365, 382] Men are bodily and spiritual creatures. A man’s spirit is more than a function of his body and cannot be ex-plained in terms of man’s material composition. Reason tells us that there must be a spiritual principle that is united with the body but not identical to it. We call it the “soul”. Ý NGHĨA LỜI CHÚA- CHÚA NHẬT 2 MÙA VỌNG NĂM B
1. Bài đọc 1 : Is 40,1-5.9-11 Đoạn này nằm trong phần thứ hai sách Isaia (các chương 40-45), được soạn bởi một đệ tử của ngôn sứ Isaia mà người ta gọi là Đệ nhị Isaia. Phần này được soạn vào cuối thời lưu đày. Do nội dung, nó cũng được đặt tên là Sách An Ủi. Trong đoạn này, có 3 ý tưởng đáng lưu ý : a/ "Thời nô lệ đã chấm dứt, tội lỗi đã được ân xá". Ngày xưa, vì dân do thái phạm tội nên Thiên Chúa đã cho họ bị lưu đày. Nhưng nay đã tới lúc Thiên Chúa ân xá tội lỗi cho họ và chấm dứt thời nô lệ của họ. Vì thế, tác giả bảo "Hãy an tâm, hãy an tâm". b/ Tác giả còn kêu gọi "Hãy dọn đường. Hãy sửa đường Chúa chúng ta trong hoang địa". Sau khi kết thúc thời lưu đày, dân sẽ trở về quê hương theo một hành trình qua sa mạc, giống như một cuộc xuất hành mới qua sa mạc để về Đất Hứa. Bởi thế, cũng như ngày xưa trong cuộc xuất hành thứ nhất, Thiên Chúa đã đi trước dẫn đường, thì trong cuộc xuất hành này, Thiên Chúa cũng sẽ dẫn đường cho họ. Vì thế mà phải dọn đường, phải sửa đường. Hành trình qua sa mạc không phải chỉ là thời gian thử thách, mà còn là thời gian thanh luyện. c/ Tác giả mô tả Thiên Chúa như một mục tử. Thiên Chúa chẳng những là Đấng giải thoát, Đấng dẫn đường, mà còn là Đấng yêu thương : "Ngài ẵm chiên con trên cánh tay, ôm ấp chúng trong lòng và nhẹ tay dẫn dắt những chiên mẹ". 2. Bài đọc II : 2 Pr 3,9-14 Lá thư được gọi là thư thứ hai Phêrô thực ra không phải do Thánh Phêrô viết, mà do một người mượn danh ngài viết ra, vào khoảng cuối thế kỷ I. Hoàn cảnh và lý do : Vào cuối thế kỷ I, các kitô hữu không mấy tin vào việc Chúa lại đến, từ đó họ cũng chẳng thiết tha gì đến việc dọn đường cho Ngài. - Do thời gian chờ đợi hơi lâu nên nhiều người nản lòng. Nhưng tác giả giải thích rằng sở dĩ Chúa chậm đến là vì Ngài nhẫn nại, ban thêm thời gian cho những người tội lỗi có dịp sám hối. - Tác giả khẳng định lại rằng chắc chắn Chúa sẽ lại đến. Và khi đó sẽ là "trời mới đất mới". - "Vì vậy, anh em càng phải sống thánh thiện và đạo đức biết bao khi mong chờ ngày Chúa đến". 3. Tin Mừng : Mc 1,1-8 Tất cả những niềm hy vọng ấy của Cựu Ước được thực hiện nơi Đức Giêsu. Ngài chính là Đấng Messia. Ngài sắp đến. Bởi thế, Thiên Chúa đã sai Gioan Tẩy giả làm tiên hô dọn đường cho Ngài, thực hiện lời kêu gọi của Isaia ngày xưa. Việc Đức Giêsu là Đấng Messia và Ngài sắp đến là một tin rất quan trọng sẽ mang lại niềm vui cho dân do thái, bởi vì họ đã chờ đợi điều này từ rất lâu. Bởi thế, ngay từ câu đầu tiên của đoạn này và cũng là của cả quyển sách, thánh Mác cô đã dùng từ "Tin Mừng" : "Khởi đầu Tin Mừng Đức Giêsu Kitô, Con Thiên Chúa". Đấng Messia là một nhân vật quan trọng mà Cựu Ước chờ đợi bấy lâu nay. Vì thế phải có một sứ giả đi trước để dọn đường cho Ngài. Isaia chỉ nói tới việc dọn đường và người dọn đường. Đoạn Tin Mừng này cho biết rõ thêm : người dọn đường là Gioan Tẩy giả, và ngài kêu gọi dọn đường một cách cụ thể bằng việc sám hối và lãnh nhận phép thanh tẩy.
