On July 13, 2020, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced new, data-driven guidance for reopening schools in New

York State.

New York State will make the formula determination during the week of August 1 to 7. It is expected the Governor will

allow schools to open.

Schools in Regions in Phase IV Can Reopen if Daily Infection Rate Remains Below 5 Percent Using a 14-Day Average

Schools Will Close if Regional Infection Rate Rises Over 9 Percent After August 1 (using a 7-day average)

Information concerning Covid-19 is fluid and is constantly changing. All information is subject to change.

St. Patrick School has received formal guidance for reopening the building from:

*NYS Department of Health

*NYS Education Department

*Morning Star Initiative

*American Academy of Pediatrics

*Perrotta Consulting Firm (specializing in threat mitigation) to plan our protocols and plans for possible “reopening.”

Reopening Plan 2020New Cleaning Protocols

● All extraneous furniture has been removed from each room to allow for additional space and for a more sterile environment.

● Although not mandated,each classroom will have its own hand sanitizer.● Custodial staff will undergo training in disinfection and sanitizing.● Bathrooms will be cleaned several times a day.● Hospital grade disinfecting solutions will be used.● Cleaning schedule, and daily logs will be kept.

Entering the building:

● Students will be required to wear a mask until they are at their desk. ● Acceptable face coverings for COVID-19 include, but are not limited to, cloth-based face

coverings and disposable masks that cover both the mouth and nose.Families are responsible for providing face coverings.

● Keep an extra mask in backpack and practice wearing one now.● Cameras on all buses- Strict consequence if mask is taken off.

● Different grades will use different areas for entrance to enforce social distancing.Grades 2, 3, will enter through door 2 and head directly upstairs to their classroom.Grades K, 1, and 4 will enter door 3 and walk directly to their classrooms.Grade 5 will enter through the lobby and walk to the first floor.Grade 6 and Grade 4 will enter through door 7 and go directly to their classroom.

All Students● Students will be scheduled as “cohorts” and remain in the same

room throughout the day.● Classroom windows will remain open.● Although not mandated, student desks will be 6 ft apart-center of chair to center of chair.● Masks can be removed for instruction and lunch.● Lunch will be eaten in their classrooms. ● Students will NOT move for instruction; the teachers will rotate.● No ties for boys, as they cannot be laundered.

7th and 8th Grade Relocation ● Monsignor Purick Hall will be used for 7th and 8th grade;

making it a true middle school.● 3 classes of 7th grade and 3 classes of 8th grade. ● Asked all transportation for additional bus stop to MPH.● Air filter has been upgraded to the highest level.

Wellness checksTeachers and students will be screened upon arrival.

● Teachers will submit a health survey and have temperature check daily.Teachers will wear masks.Teachers will be trained in syndromic surveillance.

● Students will have:Their hands sanitized.

● Temperature checked.■ Any student with a temperature over 100 degrees will be referred to our new school

nurse. (Mrs. Toomey has retired, we wish her well and will miss her!)■ The student will be placed in isolation.■ The nurse will make a determination if a student is able to stay on site based on the

screening.■ When in doubt, we will be asking the parents to pick up the student.

● Parents will fill out a weekly assessment for their child..

● If a student, teacher, or staff member with COVID-19 enters St. Patrick School,we must report this to the Department of Health.

The DOH assesses the situation and makes the appropriate recommendations regarding cleaning, disinfecting and possiblequarantine. The DOH may recommend closing the classroom, wing, or school building.

This could be short-term such as a day or two to clean or it could be up to two weeksto quarantine the class.

The Governor could also recommend closing all schools on Long Island.

At any such time, the class might have to switch to remote learning.

We will be using Google Classroom.

The following policies and procedures for Remote Learning will apply:

● Students must report online wearing their uniform, and prepared to work.● Students must have a work area (table or desk).● Students will follow their school schedule 8:30am-2:30pm. ● Students should have their own device.● Students can eat or take a break during the appropriate lunch time. No eating during lessons.● Students MUST attend google meets.● Students must submit work to receive a passing grade.

● We moved the MAIN OFFICE TO 6 N CLINTON to limit building access; LOBBY is closed.

● We have suspended the following:❏ Aftercare❏ Field Trips❏ Assemblies❏ Library❏ Extracurricular Clubs❏ Use of the cafeteria❏ Use of facilities to outside group

Building is closed to outside visitors

● Back-to-school night will be Virtual● Kindergarten Orientation will be Virtual.● Weekly Mass will be live streamed.

LatenessLate students will need to use 6 N. Clinton Ave.

Dismissal❏Walkers -students not taking the bus.❏Cars will be permitted into the school lot in a single -line❏Walkers will be dismissed at 2:55 pm.❏Please do not get out of your car. No congregating when picking up your child.❏Students will come to you.

Due to the loss of in-person schooling in the spring:● All students will be assessed the first week of

school.○ We will use iReady, a scientific,

computer-based program that delivers immediately results.

○ We will no longer use the IOWAS for assessment.

● We will tailor instruction according to the needs of the student.

● For the primary grades, the immediate focus will be in core instruction (Math and ELA).

● Additional remediation period will be built into the schedule.

● Many thanks for your part in preparing our students at home,however, nothing replaces in-person learning.

St. Patrick Parish supports each student, by granting a scholarship, keeping tuition the lowest in the area.

With the loss of Sunday collections for months, and our biggest fundraiser canceled, the Golf Outing, we will be trying Virtual fundraisers…..look on our web for an August raffle. (Our goal from the Golf Outing was to provide more chromebooks for students so each would have their own).

Realizing many of our families are experiencing lost income and financial hardships, families that are able to contribute time, treasure or talent would be greatly appreciated at this time of reduced fundraising.We are looking for creative individuals to help with our Parents Association. We want to keep our “fun” into our fundraising events! If interested, call the office. All ideas are welcomed!

Although New York State has moved to Phase IV, keeping everyone safe is still important. Your help is greatly appreciated:

● Do not send your child to school if they are sick.● Prepare your child by having him/her wear a mask everyday NOW.● Keep an additional mask in their backpack. If using a cloth mask, please launder daily.

● Talk to your child about the importance of: ○ Social distancing ○ Proper hand washing- 20 seconds○ Keeping hands away from face, etc.
