“What’s New?”
Before the mountains were born, before you birthed the earth and the inhabited world – from forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God. - Psalm 90:2 (CEB) We have said good-by to the year 2019, as well as good-by to a decade. We have rung in the new year of 2020 in a variety of ways. Here on the Delmarva Peninsula there were no ball drops like in New York city, but we had a crab drop in Easton, a muskrat drop in Princess Anne, and a boat drop in Cambridge. At the New Year’s Eve Watchnight service held at St. Luke’s UMC, Rev. Darlene Dixon preached an awesome message reminding us that no matter what the world threw at us in 2019 we had “Made It” through and we need to be prepared to move forward in 2020.
January means it’s time for a new and fresh calendar, and many of us post it in a prominent place. We seem to think that we have been given a clean slate. It’s a great time to ask ourselves, What’s New?
“What’s your new year’s resolution?” is a question that many people ask of one another at this time of year. Many of you are trying to decide what should I put on that list - to stop smoking, to start exercising, to lose 10 pounds, etc. Does your list of resolutions also include things like - do daily devotions, spend more time in prayer, read the Bible each day, practice random acts of kindness each day, etc. As we look at the many ways we can improve our physical health, let us keep in mind the need to also improve our spiritual health.
I’m not one for making a long list of New Year’s resolutions. A few years ago, I did make a resolution to be more intentional about my devotional time. And while I have increased that time, I still find there’s room for improvement. This year I will be using Take My Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time. I look forward to learning “What’s New?” in the words of these women – past and present.
God has a plan for each one of us in this new year of 2020. Let’s keep our mind, body, and soul open to God’s plan. And, let us respond mightily and boldly when we are asked, What’s new?
Blessings,
Pastor Bonnie

Health Ministry News
News from the Worship Team We would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the recent Worship Services survey. Your ideas and suggestions are very helpful. Here's what we can share with you -
1 - Any proposed changes will not be occurring January 1st, as we will need a time of transition 2 - As was stated in the beginning, this proposed change is not solely for financial reasons 3 - No final decision has been made in regard to specific worship and Sunday school start times as we continue conversation and working out certain logistics with various groups Again, we want to thank you for your comments and ask for your continued prayers as seek God's vision for St. Paul's.
Human Relations Day Sunday
TOGETHER, WE EXTEND A HELPING HAND TO THOSE IN CRISIS SO THEY CAN OVERCOME FORMIDABLE OBSTACLES.
Turn on the news or drive around the outskirts of your town and you will find what Jesus called “the least of these.” Those living in the margins of society, struggling to survive. People like:
An immigrant teenager in Texas’ poorest county, being recruited by a local gang
A father struggling for sobriety in Little Rock, Arkansas
An Oklahoma woman recently released from incarceration looking for work
Over and over Jesus served people like this, embracing them. And that’s what we want to model as the people of The United Methodist Church. To continue the ministry of Jesus we established Human Relations Day as a Special Sunday that calls all of our churches to participate in helping all God’s children to realize their potential.
Will You Support the Ministry of Christ Among Those on the Margins?
HEALTH TIPS for Sleep How much do we need?
o School-age children--at least 10 hours o Teens--9-10.5 hours o Adults--7-8 hours
Why do we need that much? o Promotes learning. Sleep strengthens links between brain cells that form
memories. o Less accident-prone--Lack of sleep leads to drop in mental performance. o Boosts mood. A bad night can make you sad, stressed, angry, tired.
