RESISTING HAPPINESS...
...that is the title of Matthew Kelly’s book that we are giv-ing as a gift to all families this Christmas. We hope you enjoy the book and that your life is in some way changed by it. Reflect on its message and see if there might be ways you could focus your life more clearly in order to discover greater freedom, joy, peace… hap-piness! That’s what God wants for you. Merry Christ-mas to you!
Spanish Speaking Deacon Recruiting Is Now Underway
The Diocese is looking for faith-filled Spanish-speaking men who are interested in becoming Permanent Deacons. A Gen-eral Information meeting will take place at the St. John Neu-mann Pastoral Center in Piscataway in January 2017. If you believe you are being called to this ministry, you should speak with your pastor and ask that he recommend you to the Dioce-san Diaconate Office (732-243-4586), [email protected]. Once he has done that, you, and if married, your wife will be invited to attend the General Infor-mation meeting. In the meantime, if you have questions about the diaconate, feel free to speak with your pastor about it or call the Diaconate Office.
Stewardship Role Model
A good steward need look no farther for a role model than the Blessed Virgin Mary, the first Christian steward. The long history of devotion to the Blessed Mother bears witness to the beautiful way in which she served as God’s faithful steward.

The Rally at the State House begins at 11:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM. The bus will bring everyone back to the Diocesan Center between 2:00 - 2:30 PM. “And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” LUKE 2:19
Mary is the perfect role model for living a stewardship lifestyle. She listened to God and said “yes” to His invita-tion to be the Holy Mother of His son. She also trusted in the God’s providence on a daily basis. As we start a new year, take time every day to listen to how God is calling you; trust that He has a better plan for you than you could ever imagine.
St. Vincent de Paul Society IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS
The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a charitable organiza-tion wholly supported by donations and is a 503(c) quali-fied charitable organization. It is run by the laity who volunteer to manage requests, assessments and collabora-tion with other charitable organizations. Saint Peter’s St. Vincent de Paul Society Chapter serves the New Bruns-wick area, providing emergency assistance to the best of our ability to members of our community in times of need. We are committed to follow the spirit of charity espoused by the founder of our Society, the Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and rooted in the teachings of St. Vin-cent de Paul. We strive to serve our community through various charitable works.
We need more volunteers! If interested, please contact us at

THE PARISH CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
STEP FORWARD WITH CHRIST
CHURCH INTERIOR PROJECT UPDATE
We are making preparations for the plaster walls, ceiling, arch-es and ribs to be repaired. The entire church will be repainted. Some elements of the design for the decorative painting draws inspiration from the oldest pictures on record of the church’s interior. While the painting we hope to do this next summer will be beautiful and have an impressive impact on the church environment, we will not be able to do all we ideally would like done.
We also plan to make some lighting improvements that should greatly complement the plaster repair and repainting, as well as the already existing beauty of the church architecture. We hope that the plaster repair, painting and lighting improvement work will begin in early May of 2017.
MOCK UP OF CHURCH INTERIOR DESIGN
A full view of the “mock up” is possible now that the scaffold has been removed. It gives us a taste of the proposed renova-tions. It’s exciting to have a preview of what the whole church could look like. It enables us to see the colors and many of the decorative features. It will help us finalize the design, enable the contractor to make any adjustments, if needed, and help define the specifications for the bidding process.
There are other elements of needed renovation, such as the church floor, that will not be addressed in this coming year’s project phase. There were other projects originally proposed in the Capital Campaign brochure that may not be possible. We had to use capital funds for other projects, such as structural repairs to the upper support capitals on each of the church col-umns, and a new heat system for the rectory. Those jobs mate-rialized and needed to be handled but they were not included in the original proposal and estimates.
We continue to rely on your support and generosity to make more needed renovations possible. Thank you to all who have participated in the Step Forward With Christ Capital Cam-paign. We have achieved about 94% of our original goal. Some of you have completed your pledge already; some have even extended and increased your pledge. We are very grate-ful. Many of you have been quietly and faithfully making payments toward your pledge according to your designated payment plan. If anyone has been having difficulty meeting their payment plan or is unexpectedly struggling, please let Anne-Marie Calderone at the parish office know so that she can update her records and work with you to make adjust-ments. If you have not yet made a contribution, please be-come involved and participate as best you can.
We appreciate those who make donations to us whenever you can. If anyone would like to either make a pledge or contribu-tion to St. Peter’s Step Forward With Christ Capital Cam-paign, please contact the parish office. Make an appointment with Fr. Tom if you want to discuss the projects or the capital campaign. A display in the church entranceway explains some project work already done and gives some idea of the future look.
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen Connections Program
The Connections Program of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen is seeking volunteers to assist in providing posi-tive adult role models for children who have suffered loss or who have special needs. Both male and female mentors are needed. If you have a minimum of three hours a week to offer to a child and want to make a difference in a child’s life, then please call Melissa Maranzano or Jeanette Cullen at (732) 738-1323 or [email protected] for more information.
Sponsorship Requirements
Being a sponsor in the way that the Catholic Church de-fines it is to enter into a spiritual relationship with the one being sponsored. A sponsor is someone who will be an example of discipleship and a support for one who is to grow in the Catholic faith and way of life. The role of sponsor is different from being a “guardian” and more than being a good friend. Guardians and friends don’t nec-essarily believe in the Incarnation of the Son of God and in Christ’s saving passion, death and resurrection. They don’t necessarily share the Catholic faith and may not be able to hand the faith on to the one being sponsored.
Therefore, to be a sponsor for someone who is to receive the sacraments of Baptism or Confirmation one is required to have completed their fourteenth year and be a fully initiat-ed, practicing Catholic in good standing. You must be a registered member of a Catholic faith community. If mar-ried, a sponsor must be in a valid, sacramental union. A sponsor may not be the father or mother of the one to be Baptized/Confirmed. All sponsors must obtain a Letter of Eligibility from their parish. A Letter of Eligibility from St. Peter’s will only be given to a registered, contributing, par-ticipating individual who has been an active parishioner for a minimum of 3 months.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO ST. PETER’S PARISH
2016 Statement Request
Any registered parishioner who would like to receive a 2016 Statement of Church Contributions should com-plete this form and place it in the collection basket or drop it off at the Parish Office. The statement will be mailed to you. Please PRINT very clearly!
