Oración a San Miguel Arcángel Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Dear Sisters and Brothers, For nearly 100 years, construction has continued on the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. This “hymn in stone” has served as a beacon of our faith to the nearly 1 million who visit it each year and to the millions more who visit and work in our nation’s capital. Perhaps you have visited the Shrine yourself. Mary’s Shrine, as it is often called, is the largest Roman Catholic Church in North America and is one of the ten largest churches in the world. Yet, 97 years after the laying of its foundation stone in 1920, it remains unfinished. This year, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked our help funding the completion of the Trinity Dome, the last remaining Shrine construction project. This “Crowning Jewel” will be adorned in mosaic and will depict the Most Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception, and a procession of saints who have an association with America and the Basilica. More information on this project can be found at trinitydome.org and/or nationalshrine.org. We have agreed to do our part in making this project a success by taking up a second collection next weekend. Our goal is to raise $600,000 to honor the Blessed Mother by completing her Shrine and signifying to all who see it that our country and its people are grateful for her many graces. Thank you in advance for your active support of this initiative. You and your families continue to be in my prayers, and I ask that you not forget to pray for me. With every good wish I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ, Cardinal Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago
Next week, our parish will participate in a national collection to complete the final major project, the Trinity Dome, on the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC before its 100th anniversary in 2020. Also known as America’s Catholic Church, the National Shrine is the largest church in the United States and is a beacon of our faith to the nearly 1 million who visit it each year and to the millions more who visit and work in our nation’s capital. More information on this project can be found at trinitydome.org and/or nationalshrine.org. Thank you in advance for your support of this initiative through the second collection next week.
Collection for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
August 19 & 20, 2017
The Trinity Dome is the central and largest dome of the National Shrine. This “Crowning Jewel” will be adorned in mosaic according to the original iconographic scheme of the Great Upper Church and will depict the Most Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception, and a procession of saints who have an association with the United States and the National Shrine. The procession of saints includes, among others, St. Juan Diego (the first canonized male Native American), St. Kateri Tekakwitha (the first canonized female Native American), St. Teresa of Calcutta (an honorary American citizen), St. Francis Cabrini, M.S.C. (the first U.S. citizen to be canonized), St. John Paul II (the first pope to visit the National Shrine), and St. Junípero Serra (declared a saint by Pope Francis at the National Shrine in 2015 for the first canonization ever to take place on American soil). The Nicene Creed will encircle the base of the dome, while the dome’s four pendentives will feature the four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
During his visit to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on September 23, 2015, Pope Francis blessed the preliminary segment of mosaic created for the Trinity Dome containing the words of the beginning and end of the Nicene Creed: “I believe in one God.” “Amen.”
The Trinity Dome The Basilica's Crowning Jewel
