Responsibilities include distributing Holy Communion at Mass, serving the homebound, and serv-ing the Catholic residents at the Protestant Home. Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 4, 2019
FOCUS: Following foolishly after the things of this world leads us in the wrong direction. Temptation is all around us. It is tempting to get ahead at the expense of others, and we are tempted to put material wealth ahead of spiritual wealth. Follow-ing Christian virtues requires grace, and takes practice and hard work. Let us pray for that grace, for what profit comes to man from all the toil and anxiety of heart if we are not rich in what matters to God? LITURGY OF THE WORD: Our first reading speaks about the foolishness of vanity, and misdirected labor. St. Paul writes to the Colossians, instructing them not to return to their old way of life, but to seek what is above. In the Gospel, Jesus tells the crowd to take care to guard against all greed, and then relates the parable of the foolish rich man. REFLECTION: Here is a mantra we can repeat as a daily reminder to avoid greed and practice a simpler life, "I have all that I want, I have all that I need." It’s a statement that can stir thanksgiving in our hearts as we offer today’s Eucharist. So we ask ourselves: • Have I placed my trust in what is passing and will
not sustain me in times of difficulty? • What reordering must I do in my priorities to put
more balance in my life?

PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM (PREP) Pass It Forward! Over a hundred children, 1st through 7th grade, will sign up this Fall to learn more about Jesus and the Catholic faith. YOU can help them learn and grow by becoming a catechist for Faith Formation. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As one long-time catechist put it, “I learn so much from the children!” We provide you with training, materials, and support. Classes are held on Tuesday nights beginning Septem-ber 10th. Y así, va a la raiz de tantos conflictos humanos que nos afectan a cada uno de no-sotros, esto es la avaricia. En pocas palabras, es la avidez, la codicia de tener más. La codicia y la ambición rompe y daña la paz y la armonía entre nosotros, y crea muchos problemas en el mundo. La felicidad no depende de los bienes materiales, por muchos que se tengan, lo dijo Jesús. Y el apego al dinero y el amontonar riquezas degrada a las personas e imposibilita la convivencia humana. Jesús denuncia el creer que el dinero lo puede todo. Es una necedad y un mal amontonar riquezas y malgastarla sin tener en cuenta a Dios y el bien de los demás. Debemos acoger y practicar el mensaje del Evangelio que nos exige poner en práctica la justicia, la solidaridad, la fraternidad y el amor y el servicio a los nuestros hermanos y hermanas.
