Maths Learning Intention:
We are learning to count, order and represent
two digit numbers.
Can I use ordinal numbers to describe the place of people or objects? Can I write the number before and after a given number? Can I find numbers on a number line? Can I count by 10s?
Year 1 This week we are learning about whole numbers. An ordinal number is when we use numbers to describe a place or order that something has come. We use ordinal names when talking about the order people finish in races or when describing dates on a calendar (1st - 31st of a month). When we write or read a number as an ordinal number, we say them a bit differently. For example, the number 1 (one) becomes 1st or first. Read and practise saying the ordinal numbers below.
Can I count the difference between two numbers?
Now let's look at the number that comes before and after a given
number. The first one has been done for you.
Lastly we are going to have a practise at rounding numbers. Rounding numbers is a very important skill to learn. We are going to start by rounding to the nearest 10. Skip count by 10s to get your brain ready. Ask a parent, carer or older sibling if they can help you watch the video below. It will help explain the steps you need to take to round numbers to the NEAREST 10. You will only need to watch the first 3 minutes, after that they explain rounding to the nearest 100, which we don’t need to learn in year 1. Round the following numbers to the nearest 10. The first one has been done for you. Use the number lines to help you find your number and the two tens that sit beside your number. Round 12 to the nearest 10

Learning Intention:
We are learning to count, order and represent
two digit numbers.
Can I use ordinal numbers to describe the place of people or objects? Can I write the number before and after a given number? Can I find numbers on a number line? Can I count by 10s? Can I count the difference between two numbers?
Year 2 Below are some 3 digit numbers, you will need to order them in ascending order. That means from smallest to largest.
Next, we are going to have a practise at rounding numbers. Rounding numbers is a very important skill to learn. We are going to start by rounding to the nearest 10 and then to the nearest hundred. Skip count by 10s and then 100s to get your brain ready. Ask a parent, carer or older sibling if they can help you watch the video below. It will help explain the steps you need to take to round numbers to the nearest 10 and then to the nearest 100.
Below are some numbers you will need to round to the nearest 10. To do that
1. Look at your number and think about what tens sit either side of your number.
2. Mark on your number line, where you think your number sits between the two numbers you wrote.
3. Think about how many numbers between your number and the tens of either side of your number. Look at the unit’s place. If it is 4 or less, you round down. If it is 5 or higher, you round up to the bigger number.

Fitness/Brain Breaks WALT
We are learning to select and
follow different movements.
Egg and spoon race: Place the (boiled) egg or golf ball onto the spoon and then the participants place their other arm behind their back. When you say go, the child will race around the room or backyard - as fast as they can without the egg rolling off the spoon as many times as possible. If the egg falls, the child starts again!
Bonus
o Students can race against family members. o Make it a team effort by involving the family and making it a
relay. See how long the players can go without dropping the egg, so pass it to your teammates carefully.

The New Bike Emma has a new bike. It is bright pink and shiny with tassels on the handlebars. The bike was a gift from her parents for her 8th birthday. They hid it behind a bush to surprise her. When Emma looked behind the bush and saw the bike, she jumped for joy. It was just what she wanted as she was dreaming of competing in the neighbourhood bicycle race. At first, Emma had to ride with the training wheels on, but once she got better balance and more confidence she no longer needed them. She would ride her bike every morning and every night to get extra practise. It was the day of the race, Emma put on her helmet and rode to the track. She lined up with the other kids, and sped off once the horn went off. Emma went really fast down the hill and across the finish line. She was overjoyed as she had come first.

There are number lines below, that you can play the game on. The little lines (increments) increase by 10 each time. So you will be able to find your number by counting by tens. There are three number lines, that way, you can play again tomorrow. Instructions for the game:

Dad was just boiling for tea, when his daughter, Joy, ran into the room.
“Dad!’ exclaimed Joy in a loud voice, “I’ve lost my favourite toy rabbit, Boing!”

Dad searched through the coins, but there was no sign of Boing.

Joy pointed, but they still could not see Boing.
Suddenly, there was a loud “Oink!” It was coming from the pig pen.
“There’s something wrong with Peppa!” shouted Joy and she ran over to the pig pen.
Dad joined Joy next to the pig pen and they looked in. They could just see a pair of bunny ears peeking out from beneath Peppa.
“Oi, Peppa. You cheeky girl!” shouted Joy. “You are sitting on my favourite toy!”
Dad rescued Boing from underneath Peppa. She was a little bit muddy and moist, but luckily, she wasn’t spoiled. Joy decided to give her a wash before bedtime though, which was a very good choice! Joke of the day: What do you give a pig with a rash?

A Visit to the Water Park There is a new water park in town. We go there on the first day of
summer. It has pools and water slides. There are sprinklers too. The
slides are scary at first. After the first ride, we love the water slides.
The sprinklers are cool on hot days. One of the pools makes its own
waves. All the kids try to surf the waves. It is really fun. The water park
can be very crowded. There are many kids and adults, but they do
not allow pets. We really like the ice cream at the snack bar. They
also sell ice blocks and donuts. We all love the new water park.
