Fabric Requirements57/8 yards Blue-C6370 Azure11/4 yards Zephyr-C5699 Beige5/8 yard Studio-C3096 Delft 2/3 yard Blue-C6375 Sky1/2 yard Studio-C3096 Sky13/8 yards Blue-C6377 Blue (includes 2/3 yard for binding)95" x 105" batting

There are three backing options:• Use the leftover lengths of the panel print Blue-

C6370 Azure plus 57/8 yards Blue-C6371 Natural. (Assembly for this option is detailed after step 10.)

• 22/3 yards of 108"-wide backing fabric of your choice

• 8 yards of 44"-wide backing fabric of your choice

Cutting

From Blue-C6370 Azure:• Cut two 104" x length-of-fabric (LOF) strips.

From one length, remove the selvages, then cut a strip 231/2" wide along the dark edge of the fabric. From the opposite (light) edge of the fabric, cut a strip 81/2" wide. Trim the length of both strips to 961/2".

• From the second 104" length, remove the selvages, then cut a strip 231/2" wide along the dark edge of the fabric. Cut the length of this strip to 961/2".

• Save the leftover 104"-long strips to piece the backing (option 1).

From Zephyr-C5699 Beige:• Cut eight 37/8" x width-of-fabric (WOF) strips.

Sub-cut eighty 37/8" squares. Draw a diagonal line on the back side of each square.

• Cut three 31/2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut thirty-two 31/2" squares.

From Studio-C3096 Delft:• Cutfive37/8" x WOF strips. Sub-cut forty-eight

37/8" squares.

From Blue-C6375 Sky:• Cut six 31/2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut sixty-four

31/2" squares.

From Studio-C3096 Sky:• Cut four 37/8" x WOF strips. Sub-cut thirty-two

37/8" squares.

From Blue-C6377 Blue:• Cut ten 21/2" x WOF strips for sashing.• Cut ten 21/4" x WOF strips for binding.

Block ConstructionAll seam allowances are 1/4" and pieces are sewn right sides together.

1. Pair a 37/8" C3096 Delft square with a marked 37/8" C5699 Beige square. Sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line (figure 1).

2. Cut on the drawn line. Open out the triangles, press seams toward the darker fabric, and trim off the dog ears. Each half-square triangle unit (HST) should measure 31/2".

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make a total of ninety-six C3096 Delft/C5699 Beige HST units.

4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make a total of sixty-four C3096 Sky/C5699 Beige HST units (figure 2).

5. Arrange six C3096 Delft HST, four C3096 Sky HST, four 31/2" C6375 Sky squares and two 31/2" C5699 Beige squares as shown in Figure 3, noting the orientation of the HST units.

6. Sew the units together in each row. Sew the rows together in order to com-plete the block, which should measure 121/2" square (figure 4).

7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to make a total of sixteen blocks.

Quilt Top AssemblyRefer to the Quilt Assembly Diagram for placement and block orientation during construction.

8. Lay out the blocks in two columns of eight blocks each, forming the zigzag patterning. Sew the blocks together in each column. Each column should measure 961/2" long.

9. Sew the ten 21/2" x WOF C6377 Blue sashing strips together end to end to make one long strip. From this long strip, cut four 961/2" lengths. Sew one strip to each side of both block columns.

10. Lay out the pieced columns with the C6370 Azure panel pieces, with the 81/2" x 961/2" strip in the middle, and the 231/2" x 961/2" pieces on the outside, with the dark edges along the outer edges of the quilt top. Sew all the strips and block columns together to complete the quilt top.

Finishing11. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing, and quilt

as desired.

12. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners.

13. Fold the binding to the quilt underside and hand-stitch the folded edge to the quilt back.

Quilt Backing Assembly (Option 1)

From the leftover Blue-C6370 Azure strips:• Cut three 91/2" x 104" strips.

One of these strips will be a bit lighter than the other two. Use this strip in the middle position in the quilt backing.

From Blue-C6371 Natural:

• Cut four 171/2" x 104" strips.

Following the Quilt Backing Assembly Diagram, sew these seven strips together in the arrangement shown to make a 951/2" x 104" quilt backing.
