Dear Families,

For nearly 150 years the Stamford Family YMCA has played a vitally important role in supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of young people in the City of Stamford. Motivated by our mission to instill the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all of our programs, we offer a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment presented in activities that ensure self-discovery, team-building, and community.

Children enjoy a daily schedule filled with opportunities to make memories, develop lasting friendships, explore nature, foster independence, find their voice, and express and contribute their gifts. Guided by trained counselors, campers are supported by positive role models and teachers who are committed to creating a kid-focused summer camp community.

Our program complements academic programs offered in schools, ensuring that campers will be able to practice and enhance skills learned in their classrooms. With a robust reading program and the integration of STEM skills in their daily activities, campers will apply their developing critical thinking skills in theme-based activities and field trips. While field trips include water parks, a professional baseball game, museums, and hikes, campers will appreciate how their adventures relate to their academic learning and aspirations. In addition, our campers will contribute as writers, illustrators, artists, and photographers for our camp newsletter.

The following pages describe the broad range of summer opportunities offered at The Stamford Family YMCA. We invite you to join us this summer as we continue to create another amazing summer of memories….

We look forward to seeing you!

Kind regards,

DanielleDanielle Jean-Guillaume SittolYouth, Family and Camp DirectorStamford Family YMCA

CAMP MOVES ME | Friendship, Accomplishment, Belonging

Make New FriendsThrough adventure, team-building activities, games, and discovering their artistic and athletic talents, campers develop meaningful relationships in groups of up to 18 children. Grouped according to their grade and guided by three trained and motivated counselors, our campers spend their days engaged in various activities, laughing, and creating their own communities within the larger camp experience.

Discovering Your PotentialWhether or not campers are new to a sport, skill, or activity, they will be encouraged to take healthy risks and challenge their physical strength. Coached by our professional staff, campers will gain confidence as swimmers and be motivated to add such sports as archery and gaga to their list of favorite sports.

The Stamford Family YMCA C.I.T. program is a selective program that offers teenagers, ages 15-16, the opportunity to develop leadership skills and learn how to contribute and grow as a thoughtful counselor and role model to younger campers. Our selection process is rigorous and includes an application, references, and interviews with the Camp Director.

During your time as a Camp C.I.T., you will become part of a camper-centered community, learning just how we make camp special for each kid. You will develop practical skills that will transfer to a host of future experiences, from college to positions of employment.

Counselors-In-Training are leaders in training who receive weekly evaluations in an environment that provides a unique opportunity for youth to build leadership skills through engagement with our diverse community of campers. In addition to working, C.I.T.’s enjoy the many special activities offered at camp including field trips, swimming, athletics, and the various other opportunities to share in the fun of camp!

FAQs Who supervises my child?Safety is our number one priority. Our camp staff is made up of dedicated and experienced adults who have received a minimum of 20 hours of training and are all CPR and first-aid certified. We have an extensive interview process including references, background checks, and drug screening to ensure the best possible role models for your children. What are the hours of camp? Our camp day runs from 9am-4pm Monday-Friday, but we also are here to accommodate your family’s schedule and offer extended care before and after camp each day. Extended care hours are: 7:30am-9am and 4:00pm-6pm. Check the registration form for fees. What do I need to send with my camper each day? We will supply the atmosphere for a great camp experience and ask only that you send your camper to camp each day with a bathing suit, towel, a water bottle and closed-toed shoes. We recommend applying sunscreen and bug spray before you get to camp. Lunch is provided daily by Chartwells. Snacks are also provided during camp. If your child is registered for extended care, they will receive breakfast (early drop off) and an afternoon snack (extended care).

Can I afford camp? With camps starting at just $425 for the week, and because of the YMCA’s commitment to providing financial aid and never turning away a family, we are confident that there are camps that are right for you. Contact us for ways we can help ensure an amazing summer for your family.
