Who we are

Elysium Neurological provides specialist rehabilitation and care for people with neurological illnesses, acquired brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.

Stanley House is set in the heart of the beautiful Herefordshire countryside amidst orchards and landscaped grounds. This 41 bedded unit was purpose built to provide specialised long term neurological care for those residents requiring skilled and experienced care to meet their specific needs and symptoms.

A neurological diagnosis can cover a wide range of

specific conditions with an even wider range of symptoms.

Stanley House provides the specialist care and expert

therapeutic interventions for people affected by the

majority of known neurological disorders including:

n Acquired Brain Injuries including those acquired through trauma or stroke, Subarachnoid Haemorrhage, Tumour or Anoxia

n Progressive Neurological Disorders e.g. Huntington’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease

n Peripheral neuropathy conditions e.g. Guillain Barre Syndrome

AccommodationAccommodation is split across two individual

units located on the same site.

Forty one individual rooms are located

around communal areas all of which are

tastefully decorated and homely in feel.

As most residents make Stanley House

their home we positively encourage

personalisation of the rooms.

The views from both buildings extend across

the countryside and the well-kept gardens

which are accessible to all residents.

There are four individual dining rooms

providing choice and space for the residents

when dining and multiple lounge and

communal areas – many of which display

the residents’ own artwork.

Additional rooms provide dedicated therapy

spaces and kitchen areas for residents to

prepare their own drinks if they wish.

n Residents who have long term and progressive neuro-degenerative disorders

n Residents needing nursing and physical care including management of PEG feeding regimes, catheter and bowel care

These superb facilities ensure that Stanley House can support:

n Residents with complex physical and health needs as a result of a progressive condition or neurological event

n Residents who are in a prolonged disorder of consciousness and those requiring end of life care

Therapy suites - These provide a dedicated

space equipped with specialist equipment to

allow residents to access our therapy team and

the therapeutic programmes needed to allow

residents to attend regular clinics to maintain

positive wellbeing and a high quality of life.

Minibus - Available to take the residents to

appointments and on short excursions.

Grounds - Extensive grounds surround Stanley

House provide a wonderful space for both

residents and their families to spend time.

Ample free parking is available for visitors.

Laundry - This is provided for the residents

as part of the service.

Food and diets - All dietary needs can be met

by our in-house catering team in collaboration

with dietitians - this includes modified diets

and specific requirements.

Free Wi-Fi - This is provided across the majority

of communal areas and bedrooms.

Facilities

Expert TeamWe have an expert interdisciplinary

team including nursing (RGN & RMN),

neuropsychiatry, speech and language

therapy, dietitian, physiotherapy and art

therapy all working alongside the local and

specialist GP’s who provide dedicated clinics.

OutcomesThose residents accessing our longer term complex

care pathways are monitored through a variety of

clinical assessment tools. We have a demonstrable

track record in delivering high standards of care

evidenced by external verification e.g. CQC,

Headway, Gold Standard Framework.

Care and Rehabilitation PathwaysWe are committed to providing the highest standard of

care and support, encompassing the physical, psychological,

emotional and social needs of all residents. We offer a range

of care pathways to suit the individual needs of those

accessing our specialist services. These include:

n Long term complex care including specialist nursing to provide respiratory support

n Sensory assessment and complex care for patients with disorders of consciousness

n Effective management of behaviours that challenge

n Palliative care

Stanley House offers therapies

and activities which include

Physiotherapy and Art therapy and

receives input from a Professor in

Neuropsychiatry and monthly

specialist GP clinics. Stanley House

provides a dedicated and skilled

approach to the care offered to

residents maximising their quality

of life and facilitating meaningful

activities each day.

Referrals/Admission process

Referrals can be made by clinicians, commissioners, case

managers or directly from families or friends. We ask that as

much information as possible is made available regarding the

potential resident and their neurological condition. We can take

referrals over the telephone, by emailing, faxing or by posting

information. Our clinical team will review the information

received quickly and efficiently and if appropriate, will arrange

for a face to face assessment of all potential residents to enable

the team to accurately evaluate the specific and individual needs

each person requires.
