[email protected] | [email protected] and Joe Stanzel
were innovators, inventors, artists and entrepreneurs. The Stanzel Model Aircraft Muse-um at 311 Baumgarten Street was developed to preserve the creative genius of these two farm boys who had a vi-sion and made it happen from a simple hobby to a successful toy business.
The mission of the Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum is to promote an appreciation of fly-ing through educational pro-grams and projects. Through
Victor and Joe’s example, it seeks to enlighten and inspire people of all ages to follow their dreams.
Victor Stanzel designed new models while Joe Stanzel helped trouble shoot mechani-cal problems. Together their work produced over 25 patents, including one for a single-line control device that revolution-ized model airplane flying. The two brothers immersed themselves in every aspect of production, from designing prototypes to manufacturing
to packaging. When radio con-trolled technology came along, the Stanzel brothers remained faithful to their single-line planes. Their only concession to the changing times came in 1957 when the brothers de-cided to switch their efforts to pre-assembled toys rather than the time-consuming kits.
A quote from a letter writ-ten by Victor in 1958, while attending a trade toy show in Chicago, shows his excitement over the toys they were produc-ing, “Well, as anticipated, the
Electromic Flash is the talk of the show…acceptance is ter-rific.” On Wednesday, July 17, from 10:30 to 4:30, the muse-um will be celebrating 20 years of operation. It will be open to the public free of charge.
Arts for Rural Texas will have art activities available and On Pointe Studio will present a Learning to Fly dance pro-gram at 11 a.m. All are invited to come and discover the joy of model planes and flying toys and participate in fun activities throughout the day.
