Quote: “Sit on the tackof success and rise rap-idly.” Class Motto MCHSClass of ‘67
Fifty years ago as we saton the stage of McPher-son County High School,I’m sure we neverthought about living intothe next century muchless the second decade ofthe next century. Com-puters, cell phones, lasers,Tasers, and a multitude ofother things that we takefor granted today were ei-ther unheard of or justpart of science fiction.During my first year ofcollege, one of the guyshad gotten a calculatorwhich was ‘WOW’, bigstuff.
That thing cost $250 atthat time and only had acouple of functions morethan the dollar store ver-sion does today. Most ofus had to use a slide ruleto calculate things. Don’task me how to use onenow because I have usedthe slide rule about asmuch as I have used alge-bra in my life.
Geometry was practicaland could be applied butsome of the rest justdidn’t make the transferinto real life. Typing wasa struggle but I use thekeyboarding skills daily. It is so nice to be able todelete and rewrite al-though the computerword processing programand I don’t always agreeon the spelling of certainwords. It turns out thatI’m right most of thetime. At least I do knowhow to look up a word inthe dictionary although Iam probably more apt tosee if I can Google the cor-rect spelling. Ha!
Time flies or so they say.I’m not sure who ‘they’were who said it but timedoes seem to pass muchmore rapidly than it usedto, yet there are somethings that seem to havehappened only yesterday.
