Summer Issue 1

Welcome Aboard! We have several new families that have made the decision to do school differently with us. We are filled with joy to have you on our team and we welcome you with open arms

Summer Book Let’s read a book together as a school! At the recommendation of our Bible/History teacher, Mrs. McDaniel, we are requesting that each student read the C. S. Lewis classic, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and parents, we invite you to read along with your child(ren) as well. Whether lounging on the couch or gathered around a campfire, we encourage you to bring back the art of storytelling to your next few family nights!

Across the pages of this captivating summer read, four adventurous siblings—Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie— step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change . . . and a great sacrifice. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the second book in C. S. Lewis's classic fantasy series, which has been drawing readers of all ages into a magical land with unforgettable characters for over sixty years.

This is a stand-alone read that is packed full of Biblical undertones. Have fun searching for comparisons and to add a bit of theatrics as you read, try using different voices and acting out parts of the book.

Creativity Café We wouldn’t dare give homework over the summer, but we want to give your brains a little boost prior to the school year! Students, please choose one of the activities below and create something wonderful that reflects on the book we are reading together. Don’t worry—this assignment will not be graded, but you must show your utmost level of creativity. Save your project to be included in your annual summative portfolio if you’d like.

Create a comic strip about one of your favorite scenes in the book Design a costume that one of the characters would wear Create an original recipe just for Narnia Record a clay animation of one of the scenes in the book Write an extension of one of the chapters in the story Use Minecraft to replicate the land of Narnia Pretend that you are interviewing one of the characters on your very own talk show or news special Use materials around the house to make a miniature version of the wardrobe or castle in the book Make an original board game based on the themes and scenes in the book Come up with your own project to reflect what you read in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Calling All STAR POINTE Scholars! We’d like you to help us decide on our school colors and our school mascot. Would you like our colors to be lime green, orange, and pink? Should we be the STAR POINTE Craisins or Beavers? It’s all up to you. There will be a link placed on our school website at: www.schooloftheirdreams.com. You may cast your vote there as you try hard to suggest colors and a mascot that’ll make others say, “Wow! That school is awesome!”

What’s the Best Way to Beat Summer Boredom? Try something new like these origami projects.

Check These Out As if we all don’t have better things to do, but… sometimes you stumble across some pretty neat stuff on the Internet. Here are a few things that have recently caught my attention. Enjoy!

We Want Your Junk Do you have a computer monitor or CPU tower that’s been hanging out in your garage collecting dust or do you know of someone who is considering upgrading and wants to get rid of their old computer? Well, please send us these relics—we’d love to have them! Our students will dissect and reconstruct dilapidated computers as they explore their inner workings. Contact the school to schedule a drop-off time. Thank you in advance

God Can’t Fail When describing the capabilities of God, one might think of these words: POWERFUL, STRONG, and ENDLESS. We could go on to say that God is FLAWLESS and MATCHLESS because He cannot fail. God can do anything except mess up. What assurance that gives us in all uncertainties. Think about it—this big ol’ heavy Earth on which we reside is being held up by this thing called gravity that God created and we can trust that He knows exactly how to prevent us from falling out of orbit. God has everything under control and He specializes in the unthinkable! What are you trusting God to do in your life? Try leaning on the scriptures above and know that to God the hard stuff is easy. Have a great summer!

"Is anything too difficult for the LORD? …

Genesis 18:14

'Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the

heavens and the earth by Your great power

and by Your outstretched arm!

Nothing is too difficult for You.

Jeremiah 32:17

And looking at them Jesus said to them,

"With people this is impossible, but with God

all things are possible."

Matthew 19:26
