Genre

• The genre we have chosen to use with our music video is the Indie-Pop genre.With this thought the thought of how we should portray our pop star artist for our music video. To do this I must analyse multiple music videos and focus on the main artist and note the similarities and contrasts between them all.

The indie-pop artists I have chosen to analyse are;

• Taylor Swift – Love Story

• Florence and the Machine – Rabbit Heart

• Marina and the Diamond – Primadonna Girl

Taylor Swift- Love StoryTaylor Swift is a soft elegant indie-pop individual, she is always portrayed as a pretty and sophisticated in her music videos

The music video love song is a slow paced song which allows the audience to soak in the artist and also sticks with the elegance of the artists too.

The light in this shot coming in from the right shines on the artist in a sophisticated soft way, it also shows her natural beauty.

The use of the mise-en-scene (costumes, location, hair and makeup and props) help set the theme of the music video.

Florence and the Machine- Rabbit Heart

With Florence in her music video, as like Taylor Swift the use of a softened filter is used to give that elegant, dreamlike look which is quite conventional in indie-pop music videos. In contrast to this unlike indie-pop videos in Florence’s music video a dance routine is shown throughout the piece.

Also within this music video intertexuality is involved, in this case its referencing Alice In Wonderland at the tea party scene, this also sets the music video into some sort of dreamlike fantasy world.

Marina and the diamond- PrimadonnaGirls

This shot shows that the artist is very lighthearted and fun which in ways can really draw in an audience.

The mise-en-scene in this music video is similar to the previous examples given as her costume hair and makeup and location are very vintage and also very elegant.

Intextuality occurs in this music video as the character references to Madonna in her music video ‘Vogue’.
