Not only did a whopping 13 runners top the 1,000-yard mark – including at least two from each of the four HBCU conferences - but the two who earned our 2016 BLACK COLLEGE SPORTS PAGE Offensive Player of the Year awards, set career rushing marks in their respective conferences. Southern senior Lenard Tillery and North Carolina A&T senior Tarik Cohen led all the rushers with 1,665 and 1,588 yards respectively and are the leaders of the 2016 BCSP "BAAD TEAM" of black college offensive all-stars and this year's offensive MVPs. Tillery's total for this year (1,665) set a new Southwestern Athletic Confer- ence single-season record and propelled him to the top of the SWAC career rush- ing list past former Jackson State RB Destry Wright's record of 4,050 yards. The 5-10, 200-pound former walk- on with cat-like quickness finished his career with a 230-yard, 25-carry per- formance against Grambling State in the Bayou Classic and averaged over 176 yards per game over his last four contests. He ends with a total of 4,837 rushing yards over his stellar four-year career. Cohen, a 5-6, 173-pound dynamo, completed his fourth straight 1,000- yard season with his highest total of 1,588 yards. The 2016 total was the third highest single-season in Mid Eastern Athletic Conference history and gives Cohen the third and fifth highest single- season marks in MEAC history. He finished his career with 5,619 yards – the only MEAC runner to top the 5,000-yard mark – shattering former South Carolina State RB Wil Ford's former record of 4,660 by nearly 1,000 yards. With 868 career carries, Cohen also broke the MEAC record in that cat- egory. Cohen also finished as the eighth leading rusher in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) history. He also had 28 100-yard games and eight 200-yard games. While both Tillery and Cohen took home records, Grambling State quar- terback Devante Kincade and the Ti- gers took home the 2016 BCSP national title. Kincade also took home his share of hardware including first team quarter- back status on this year's "Baad Team." The Ole Miss transfer guided the G- Men to an 11-1 record, the SWAC title and a tough 10-9 win over MEAC cham- pion North Carolina Central in the 2nd Annual Celebration Bowl to claim the fi- nal No. 1 ranking in the BCSP Top Ten. Kincade beat out Tillery for the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year award after leading the conference in passing yards (251.8 ypg.), passing ef- ficiency (166.0) and total offense (273.8 ypg.). He also led the SWAC and topped all black college QBs with 31 TD passes while throwing just four interceptions. The dynamic duo of pass catch- ers named to the first team offense were nearly as prolific as the running backs. Grambling senior Chad Williams and Bowie State senior Nyme Manns both averaged 7.5 receptions per game and both topped the 1,000-yard mark. Williams hauled in 90 catches for 1,337 yards including 11 TD receptions while Manns caught 83 balls for 1,241 yards and 9 TDs. Manns averaged 112.8 and Williams 111.4 yards per game. Southern senior Dillon Beard had 38 receptions and six TDs to earn the first team tight end position. The offensive line includes two- time MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year, junior Brandon Parker of NC A&T, N. C. Central senior center Carl Jones, Grambling State senior tackle Justin Miller, Southern senior Anthony Moseley and Bowie State senior Justin Nestor. Southern senior Willie Quinn holds down the first team kick returner. Quinn averaged 26.9 yards on seven punt re- turns with one touchdown and 23.3 yards on 18 kickoff returns. Tennessee State junior Lane Clark converted 17 of 25 field goals and 38 of 42 PATs to score 89 points (8.1 ppg.) on the season and earn first team at place- kicker. Clark hit on nine field goals beyond 40 yards and three of over 50 yards. Tarik Cohen Lenard Tillery Devante Kincade Nyme Manns Chad Williams Dillon Beard Willie Quinn Brandon Parker Carl Jones Lane Clark STAT CORNER BCSP Notes Attendance Matters After trailing the Magic City Classic over the past seven years in attendance, the Bayou Classic pitting Grambling State and Southern has taken back the top spot as the black college game in 2016 with the largest attendance. The Bayou was second a year ago but its 2016 attendance of 67,845 for the Nov. 26 rival game at the New Orleans Super Dome surpassed the Alabama A&M vs. Alabama State Magic City crowd of 63,110 at Birmingham's Legion Field. The Bayou's number rose by over 5,300 fans while the MCC dropped 774 from last year's total. The State Fair Classic at the Cottton Bowl in Dallas between Grambling State and Prairie View A&M held on to third place with 53,182 in attendance. The BCSP compiled the attendance numbers differently for 2016. Instead of breaking the numbers down by overall and homecoming attendance only, a new cat- egory – on-campus non-homecoming games – was added. The largest attended on-campus, non-homecoming game this year was Jackson State's draw of 33,210 fans for its Oct. 15 contest vs. Southern. Fellow SWAC member Alcorn State had the second highest number with 27,297 fans for its regular season finale on Nov. 19 vs. Jackson State. Tuskegee again tops the homecoming list with the crowd of 26,591 that packed the 'Bowl' for its October 22 duel with Kentucky State. Jackson State was second with 26,215 on hand for its Oct. 29 homecoming date with Prairie View. Florida A&M was third drawing 26,044 for its homecoming vs. Hampton on Oct. 22. Tillery, Cohen lead 2016 "Baad Team" offenseLUT WILLIAMS BCSP Editor To say that the 2016 black college football season was the year of the run-ning back would be quite an understate-ment. Tillery's total for this year (1,665) set a new Southwestern Athletic Confer-ence single-season record and propelled him to the top of the SWAC career rush-ing list past former Jackson State RB Destry Wright's record of 4,050 yards. The 5-10, 200-pound former walk-on with cat-like quickness finished his career with a 230-yard, 25-carry per-formance against Grambling State in the Bayou Classic and averaged over 176 yards per game over his last four contests. He ends with a total of 4,837 rushing yards over his stellar four-year career. Cohen, a 5-6, 173-pound dynamo, completed his fourth straight 1,000-yard season with his highest total of 1,588 yards. The 2016 total was the third highest single-season in Mid Eastern Athletic Conference history and gives Cohen the third and fifth highest single-season marks in MEAC history. He finished his career with 5,619 yards – the only MEAC runner to top the 5,000-yard mark – shattering former South Carolina State RB Wil Ford's former record of 4,660 by nearly 1,000 yards. With 868 career carries, Cohen also broke the MEAC record in that cat-egory. Cohen also finished as the eighth leading rusher in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) history. He also had 28 100-yard games and eight 200-yard games.

While both Tillery and Cohen took home records, Grambling State quar-terback Devante Kincade and the Ti-gers took home the 2016 BCSP national title. Kincade also took home his share of hardware including first team quarter-back status on this year's "Baad Team." The Ole Miss transfer guided the G-Men to an 11-1 record, the SWAC title and a tough 10-9 win over MEAC cham-pion North Carolina Central in the 2nd Annual Celebration Bowl to claim the fi-nal No. 1 ranking in the BCSP Top Ten. Kincade beat out Tillery for the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year award after leading the conference in passing yards (251.8 ypg.), passing ef-ficiency (166.0) and total offense (273.8 ypg.). He also led the SWAC and topped all black college QBs with 31 TD passes while throwing just four interceptions. The dynamic duo of pass catch-ers named to the first team offense were nearly as prolific as the running backs. The offensive line includes two-time MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year, junior Brandon Parker of NC A&T, N. C. Central senior center Carl Jones, Grambling State senior tackle Justin Miller, Southern senior Anthony Moseley and Bowie State senior Justin Nestor. Southern senior Willie Quinn holds down the first team kick returner. Quinn averaged 26.9 yards on seven punt re-turns with one touchdown and 23.3 yards on 18 kickoff returns. Tennessee State junior Lane Clark converted 17 of 25 field goals and 38 of 42 PATs to score 89 points (8.1 ppg.) on the season and earn first team at place-kicker. Clark hit on nine field goals beyond 40 yards and three of over 50 yards.

BCSP NotesAttendance Matters After trailing the Magic City Classic over the past seven years in attendance, the Bayou Classic pitting Grambling State and Southern has taken back the top spot as the black college game in 2016 with the largest attendance. Instead of breaking the numbers down by overall and homecoming attendance only, a new cat-egory – on-campus non-homecoming games – was added. 22.
