Public and Government State University for Music and Performing Arts The Staatsgalerie, which was designed by James Srling Michael Wilford and Associates, served as a guide when the „cultural mile“ of Stugart was complemented by the University for Music and Performing Arts. Due to the fact that the inner city of Stugart is shaped by road axes which climb up the hillsides, the goal of the urban concept was to keep the axis between the Opera and the Galatea Well free. This was achieved by mirroring the L-shape of the exisng Theatre creang the form which now houses the Museum of History together with an inner public theatre plaza. The central piece of the composion is the tower of the academy, which joins the register of disncve “Stugart Towers”. It is made up of the central funcons of the building, the 3-storey concert hall with 500 seats, the library and the senate hall. The roof terrace referen- ces to the rotunda of the Staatsgalerie. It is a remarkable feature of the building and can facilitate inmate open air concerts.
