DAYTON, Ohio, March 15, 1972 --- A trio of annual Spring concerts and
various other recitals are on schedule for the months of March and April in
the Music Division of the Performing and Visual Arts Department of the Univer
sity of Dayton.
On Thursday, March 23, the Phi Mu Alpha professional music fraternity is
holding its annual Sinfonia recital in the Albert Emanuel Building at 4:00 p.m.
The recital is sponsored by the local chapter of the national Phi Mu Alpha
fraternity.
Dr. Kapp, part time instructor at the University, and his wife Carol, a
student at U.D., are presenting a recorder-harpsichord ensemble on Tuesday,
March 28, at 4:00 p.m. in the Albert Emanuel Building. The recorder is a
flute type instrument that dates back to the 1600 or 1700's. The Ensemble
music will include pieces from Elizabethan England, and 17th and 18th Century
German music.
In April, more activity is scheduled for the department. The Concert
Band's annual Spring recital will occur on Friday, April 7, at 8:15 p.m., in
the Boll Theatre of the Kennedy Union. There is a difference in the concert
for this year. Two students, Mike Fitzpatric, and David Leppla, will take
turns directing the Band during the concert.
A Faculty recital with organist John Carlson is scheduled at the Seventh
DS\V' Adventist Church in Kettering, on Sunday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. The
recital is one of a continuing series of concerts with the new organ that
was recently installed at the Church. The University made an agreement with
the church to be able to use the organ for recitals this school year.
The annual Spring concert of the University Choir is on the agenda for
Monday, APril" , at 8:15 p.m. The pianists are Mary Clare Barker, and
Roxanne Betz, with soloists Muriel Crook, Susan Reindl, Larry Bommarito, and
Edward Piepmeyer. Professor Lawrence Tagg is conductor for the Choir, while
Muriel Crook is the stUdent conductor. The Boll Theatre will be the setting
for the folk songs and spirituals planned by the choir.
Mrs. Carol Baxter, music instructor at the University, is in charge of
a recital by a String Quartet which has been formed on the U.D. campus. Mrs.
Baxter is first violinist, Miss Sheryl Saunders is second Violinist, Mrs.
Bertha Meyers will play the viola, and Robert Vine is the cellist. The
recital will be held in the Albert Emanuel Building on Thursday, April 13,
at 8:15 p.m., and pieces will include, Josef Haydn's Opus 77, number 1, in
D Major, five short pieces from "Mikrokosmos", by Bela Bartok, and
Beethoven Quartet Opus 95.
