About ESA

Founded as a family owned Midwest based asbestos abatement business in 1982, ESA has grown into one of the most highly regarded environmental remediation and demolition firms in the U.S. The ESA Family of Companies is comprised of ESA, Inc. and Earth Services & Abatement, Inc. For more than 35 years, ESA has been the leading environmental remediation and demolition firm in the Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions. ESA is distinguished from the rest of our industry as being a turnkey operation, offering a full range of services including asbestos and lead abatement, water and soil remediation, structural demolition, hydro-blasting and coating removal.

ESA provides a full range of environmental solutions to some of the country’s largest companies and government agencies. Maintaining licenses and certifications in 34 states, we have the capacity to take on projects from the local level to those national in scope. Rather than hiring multiple firms, most of our clients prefer to keep costs down and save time by allowing our well-trained team to handle their various needs nationwide.

ESA is well positioned to handle projects of any size, and has successfully completed more than 10,000 projects ranging in size from $5,000 to over $20 million. For 10 years running, ESA ranked in the top 10 firms in asbestos abatement, and in the top specialty contractors in the U.S. according to Engineering News Record (ENR). Additionally, ESA ranked as the top specialty contractor by ENR Mountain States in 2017. In 2013, ESA was also named Small Business of the Year by the Society of American Military Engineers. In 2016, ESA won the Environmental Excellence award from the National Demolition Association (NDA).

ESA is committed to successfully delivering every project we undertake. This commitment starts with our leadership and flows down through our skilled labor work force. The owners of ESA are hands-on active participants in every aspect of our projects, from bidding through contract closeout. This approach has led to ESA being recognized as one of the safest, most accomplished, respected and reliable firms in our industry.

Our sweet spot is turnkey abatement, structural demolition and earth work. When you need one firm to handle all your environmental and demolition needs, look to ESA.

Our Services

Asbestos Abatement

ESA is one of the preeminent asbestos abatement firms in the U.S., performing abatement on facilities, schools, hospitals, government projects and railroad sites across the country. Our team has worked on projects big and small, from $5,000 to over $20 million. For 10 years running, ESA has made ENR’s list of top 10 abatement firms in the U.S.

Demolition

Building upon the foundations that brought ESA a national reputation in the environmental remediation industry, the demolition division has enabled us to offer a bundle of services. With a fleet of heavy equipment, ESA is able to self-perform all aspects of demolition. In addition, we can service facilities nationally, with licenses in most states. Our niche is to provide complete abatement, structural demolition and earthwork services. ESA has a class A demolition license and the track record to prepare us for most challenges. Additionally, our high reach excavator allows us to demolish tall structures that other firms can’t touch.

Soil & Water Remediation

As a leader in contaminated soil and water remediation, ESA has removed millions of yards of asbestos, petroleum, lead and coal ash impacted soil just in the past few years. As regulations have become more stringent, environmental and demolition projects often have a soil and water remediation component. In our effort to offer turnkey services to our clients, remediation has become one of ESA’s central offerings. Clients prefer our unique ability to deliver all environmental and demolition solutions under one umbrella.

Hydro-Blasting

ESA has the unique equipment and expertise needed to perform ultra-high pressure (up to 40,000 PSI) water blasting “Spin-Jet” coating removal. The process uses a self-contained Vac-loader unit creating its own negative pressure within the housing. The vacuum-assisted housing is where the spinning bar, made up of several nozzles, impacts the coating. All debris is removed with a vacuum hose connected to a vacuum box attached to the Vac-loader. The result is an emission-free system that leaves a clean, dry surface. The only waste generated is the coating and some residual water that is filtered and safely disposed. ESA uses this process for coatings containing lead, asbestos and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Our Culture

Safety

Safety comes first at ESA. We are accountable for the safety of all our people and hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. ESA’s EMR has been at or below 1.0 for the past 10 years. ESA’s 2017 EMR is .77. ESA has taken an aggressive and proactive approach to planning safety in the pre-job startup phase of every project. Safety issues are addressed prior to the arrival of ESA employees and reviewed daily on every job site. A behavior based approach makes safety the responsibility of every employee.

Our personnel are continuously educated concerning all applicable regulations and guidelines of the EPA and OSHA. In addition, ESA is committed to employing only qualified personnel specifically trained and certified for hazardous materials (Hazwoper), asbestos and lead remediation. All training is in full accordance with the EPA and OSHA regulations for hazardous materials. Although not required by law, our demolition crews are also trained in the same rigorous manner and are therefore able to handle even the most difficult or unexpected situations.

ESA’s health and safety program reduces risks through education and preparation. Environmental and Demolition work by its nature is fraught with dangers. All of our workers wear the appropriate protective equipment and engage in safety education and reeducation on a continual basis. We constantly work to exceed client expectations by going beyond the recommended guidelines of OSHA and the EPA. See EMR letter on the following page.

Insurance

ESA’s insurance coverage serves to safeguard our clients and employees in the event of a catastrophic loss. Existing policy limits meet or exceed all statutory and client requirements. Our General Liability policy is for $10 million per occurrence and includes pollution coverage. Additional umbrellas are available when required.

• Worker’s Compensation• General Liability • Contractor’s Pollution Liability • Auto Liability

Bonding

ESA’s capacity to bond large projects is one of our company’s greatest strengths. Few firms have the capacity that we do to bond multiple large scale projects simultaneously. With ESA’s national presence and our ability to handle all environmental and demolition solutions, we are unrivaled in our industry. ESA has never been turned down for bonding and were recently bonded for a single project valued at over $50 million. See bonding letter on the following page.

A challenging component to this project was the necessity of the repair shop to remain occupied and fully operational during all asbestos abatement and demolition. To respond to this requirement ESA erected a 45-foot temporary enclosure along the interior of the building which allowed for segregation of the work area during abatement and demolition activities. ESA was able to remove all asbestos coatings in an open-air atmosphere utilizing our high-pressure spin-jet and vac-system and achieved all asbestos abatement with zero emissions. Once abatement was complete ESA proceeded to demolish the clean walls. At the conclusion of demolition a new permanent exterior wall was constructed and ESA removed the temporary enclosure.
