1. Uganda
Good quality data is crucial for the process of better monitoring, evaluation, and management
of development results. Since 2008 Artfully AWARE has been running various Arts based
Educational Projects and Programmes within communities in Uganda. Information for
monitoring and evaluation purposes has been gathered.
Information thus far provided has been in report form and mostly qualitative, but through
careful analysis, necessary and important statistical data has been extracted. Unfortunately
exact numbers of participants have never been recorded. However, after discussions with
team members it has been decided that an average of 20-30 participants for each Arts Based
Project was probable, with the exceptions of both the Music/Drama/Dance Project (MDD) and
the Community Book Programme where participant numbers were far higher. The number of
participants involved in the MDD Projects has been averaged at 50, and the number of
participants in the Community Book Programme has been averaged at 150 over the 2 years it
was run.

2. Arts Based Projects in Uganda 2008-2010
All projects undertaken incorporate one or more of the aforementioned artistic activities.
Activities included in the workshops that have so far been carried out:
Paintings Murals Greeting Cards Dance Performances Theatre Performances Dialogue Community Books (please see section 3. for more information) Community Exhibitions
Please be aware that projects take the form of workshops, which are run over a number of days. Therefore, where ‘1’ project may appear in the following statistics, the number of days of workshops may in fact be many more than 1. Projects are typically run over the course of 3 days, with the maximum so far being 5. This, in turn, provides many hours of quality arts based educational activities.

4. Conclusion
Artfully AWARE will continue implementing Arts Based Development Initiatives within the communities in Uganda where we have a presence. We aim to develop and expand the projects so that each community participating will receive the projects more regularly and consistently. We also hope to be able to include more community members and introduce collaboration between our communities within Uganda so that they may share their knowledge and experiences gained through Artfully AWARE.
With limited funds but huge amounts of enthusiasm from a dedicated team, Artfully AWARE has successfully implemented 20 Arts based projects, 3 Batik making projects, 2 Music/Drama/Dance projects and a 2 year Community Book Programme producing 10 Community Books, within incredibly isolated and impoverished communities within Uganda.
