I recently finished reading Basic Christian: The Inside Story of John Stott. Aside from Billy Graham, probably no Christian leader in modern times has had a greater impact on world Christianity than John Stott. For many years the pastor of the renowned All Souls Church in London, Stott is an Anglican priest, the author of at least 27 books, and a key architect of the 20th century evangelical movement. Later this month, he turns 90.
Throughout his ministry, John Stott has called “the whole church to take the whole gospel to the whole world.” What most impressed me about Stott, however, was not the breadth of his vision but his single-minded focus on the specific tasks to which God called him. As a prominent leader, he was always being asked to participate in this
Staying Focusedor that worthy cause. But Stott refused to let anything deflect him from his own proper ministry. As a result, he said “no” far more often than he said “yes.” It was for the best. By keeping his focus narrow, he accomplished much.
We’d all do well to follow John Stott’s example. May we share his passion to see “the whole church take the whole gospel to the whole world.” But may we also focus on our own proper ministry, saying no to every “good” thing that keeps us from doing the specific thing to which God has called us.
In Christ’s service,Paul

Weekly CalendarSecret Church: Crucifixion, Salvation and the Glory of God
6 p.m. - midnightJoin us on Good Friday, April 22, for a live streaming video broadcast of David Platt, author of Radical and Pastor of the Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL, as he leads an intense time of Bible study--lasting approximately 6 hours – and a time of prayer for our persecuted brothers and sisters across the globe. The goal of Secret Church is for participants to identify with and pray for these persecuted brothers and sisters. A $10 donation per person covers the cost of the video feed and your dinner. Additionally, an offering will be taken, the proceeds of which will directly support persecuted Christians worldwide through ongoing ministry opportunities and teaching materials. We need an accurate count of who will be coming, so please contact the Education Office immediately to sign up.
