AsUSBcharginghasgainedpopularity,the500mAminimumdefinedbytheUSB2.0specificationand900mAdefinedintheUSB3.0specificationhavebecomeinadequateformanyhandsets,tabletsandpersonalmediaplayers(PMP)thathaveahigherratedchargingcurrent.Severalnewstandardshavebeenintroduceddefiningprotocolhandshakingmethodsthatallowhostandclientdevicestoacknowledgeanddrawadditionalcurrentbeyondthe500mA.TheSTCCinternalchargeremulatorallowshighercurrentchargingprofilesbetweenhostandclient,enablingchargecurrentsupto2.5Aandincreasesthechargespeedby5times.Withoutit,thechargewouldfollowstandard500mAUSB2.0requirementsresultinginamuchlongerchargingtimeformostadvancedportableequipment.

Moreover,theSTCC’sintegratedcircuitarchitecturehasbeencustomizedtoallowremoteitsownwake-upwhenthehostisinoffstate.ThisallowstheclienttobechargedwithoutactiveOSandatthesametimeprovidesoptimizedsystemefficiency.Finally,theSTCCenablestheUSBporttoactasachargingportwhilestillfunctioningasadatatransferport.
