2014 MASS BOOK

There are some Masses now available for 2014. Masses are available for some Sunday morning Masses at various times. The Masses are available at the Rectory (Monday - Friday, 9am to 3pm) and on a first-come, first-served basis. Thank you. God bless.

A SUMMER BLESSING May our Loving God watch over you and keep alive in your heart all that you have learned this year. Keep your mind on God. Remember to pray often and to celebrate your faith at home with your family, and at Mass with your faith family. Keep your faith in God. Let all the joys of summer remind you of God’s goodness. Never forget that God is always with you, no matter what. May the God of all creation, who comes to us in Jesus and lives among us in the Holy Spirit, keep you safe, happy, and holy this summer and always. Amen.

SETTING ASIDE THE WEAPONS OF WAR

Why, we might ask as the prophet Zecha-riah today, would God want to banish chariots and horses? The answer follows: because they are used to violating God’s reign of peace, along with the warrior’s bow. In the days of Zechariah, chariots and horses were high-priced items used only for war-making. They were the aircraft car-riers and nuclear missiles of his day. And for his culture, which thought of any king as being a military leader first and foremost, a king riding on a lowly beast of burden to proclaim peace without horses, chariots and bows would have set his listeners topsy-turvy. This lowly, beast-riding king of peace we believe, was fulfilled in Jesus, gentle and humble of heart. In a world torn by military strife often generated by differing religious views, and even in our own lives and homes where we are often at “war” over the tiniest things, we would do well to stop and consider to what degree we are willing to be like that “king” whose way of gentleness and humility is the way for us to find rest for our weary souls. SUMMER IS HERE!

As you travel this summer with family and friends, please remember your Parish Family. I ask that you continue to support Stella Maris over the summer by keeping up with your contributions. God will surely reward you. We hope you enjoy the beauty of summer and return home safely.

We thank you for your generosity.

Dear Sisters and Brothers, In our Gospel reading, we hear the words: “Come to

me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” This invitation is extended by Jesus to all of us. How-ever, these words do not mean inactivity. We are invited to become yoke-mates with Christ. A yoke is an instrument that allows heavy burdens to be carried or pulled without serious chafing. Jesus is not promising us less accountability. He is promising us help so that we can more easily bear our re-sponsibility in following God’s will. We who are invited are to accomplish this by learning from Jesus himself. He, too, bears a yoke and the invitation is to share that yoke and thus learn from him. Here the key to bearing one’s yoke is a close imitation of Jesus’ gentleness and his being humble of heart. All this will allow two things to happen. First, a heavy bur-den can still be managed. Second, that burden will seem much lighter because Jesus himself is providing assistance. As yoke-mates with Jesus, we can say with him that our yoke is easy and our burden light. These words should give us comfort especially in the trails and challenges that we face each day. Jesus never made the promise to take away our sufferings. Quite the opposite: Jesus promised us that we will suffer. Suffering will always find us, because suffering always has something to teach us, but let us never despair but always turn to Christ, who will give us rest.

Be assured of my prayers. I ask you to remember me in your prayers.

Happy Summer! God Bless! Father Di Orio
