If that is the case, the password will be Z66831. • On the VX520, to generate the ‘Z’ character in the password, press 1, Alpha, Alpha. Verifone terminals are getting caught in a boot loop when they are restarted. To correct the issue, follow the steps below.

U.S. default passwords:

166831 (680) or

Z66831 (520)

Verifone VX680 Verifone VX520

To enter System Mode from the System Information Screen (shown right) select the following:

• Enter + 7 on both VX680 and VX520

• F2 + F4 only on VX520

NOTE: It will likely take several tries to get to the password screen as timing needs to be precise.

Enter the Password

IMPORTANT• For passwords longer than 10 digits, do not wait for the * keys; just

keep entering the password.

• For passwords with repeating numbers, please include a slight pause before repeating the same digit.

• On the VX680, if the password isn’t typed quickly enough, the device will continue looping. Enter the password quickly, pausing only between the two ‘6’ entries. For instance, 1, 6, pause, 6, 8, 3, 1.

• Some VX680s have the Alpha key on the screen. If that is the case, the password will be Z66831.

Enter in password when prompted: • U.S.: 166831 (680) or Z66831 (520)

(Press 1, Alpha, Alpha to generate the Z in the 520 password)

Select ‘Multi-app’ Select ‘Partial dnld’ (download)NOTE: It is very important to select ‘Partial’ and not ‘Full’ for this step.

DO NOT select full download

• NOTE: For the VX520, select the far left purple key once to go to the next menu options

Select TCPIP

Select Download

• NOTE: For Dial-Up, please go to the end of this document and follow those steps

• NOTE: For VX680, all of the options will be listed

Select Ethernet in the Comm Technology menu• The terminal will verify an Ethernet connection

• Once confirmed, it will go into the Download Menu

• NOTE: For VX680 3G Wireless, select ‘GPRS’. If the GPRS option fails, attempt again using ‘Default Interface’. If you receive ‘GPRS Not Connected’ error, follow these steps:

• Press [Cancel] 3 times• Once you are on the ‘Network Control Panel’ screen, press the

Menu or green Enter button.• From the menu selected the following options: [Tools] >

[Download] > [GPRS] > [Download] > Group ID > Group ID Password > Partial Restart

• From there, follow the regular downloading steps.

Select Download Enter 1 for the Group ID, press Enter

Type in the Group ID Password

• U.S.: 166831 (680) or Z66831 (520) (Press 1, Alpha, Alpha to generate the Z in the 520 password)

Highlight and select ‘Partial – Restart’

For the following steps: If any of the corresponding options are incorrect, you will need to select EDIT and apply the appropriate changes. Press Enter once the value is confirmed.

NOTE: VX680 touchscreen may not be calibrated. Use a pen or attached stylus to select ‘Edit’. Alternatively, press yellow key on VX680 to enter edit mode.

Verify the following values:

URL/Address: VCDL.VERIFONE.COM NOTE: The VX680 will use the IP address 192.30.100.44

NOTE: If you need to edit anything from this section, and you’ve already confirmed it by pressing the enter key, press the red Cancel key and it will bring you back to Step 11 to restart the download configuration.

Verifone Port: 443 SSL=TRUE

Note: If SSL value will not change, and SSL=False, then the port selected should be 8013, you may press ‘Cancel’ to go back to the port selection.

Block Size=1000 (Recommended value, but default is acceptable)

Heap Size=4096 (Recommended value, but default is acceptable)

NOTES• If you receive ‘Term Not Avail’ go back to Step 16 (Terminal ID=) and try a different 5-digit number within

the specified range for your device type. The Terminal ID you had chosen may be in use.

• If there is too long of a delay in following the next step, the terminal will timeout to the previous menu.• If you receive a ‘GPRS not connected error’, the wrong option is selected, you time out when trying to do

a download, or the internet connection fails during the download attempt, the terminal will default to the Network Control Panel (NCP) screen.

• NOTE: If your terminal times out to the Network Control Panel, following these steps to proceed with the download (make sure that the screen displays Connected before proceeding):

• Select Menu

• Select Tools

• Select Download

*This will bring you to Step 10

Settings summary• Verify info, press Enter 4 times to start initiating the download

• NOTE: Ensure ‘DOWNLOAD’ is highlighted on the final page. If EDIT is highlighted, arrow down to highlight ‘DOWNLOAD’

• NOTE: If the terminal does not restart on its own, you will need to cancel back to the Network Control Panel main screen. Select Menu, then Restart.

• Ensure you run a test transaction to validate the terminal updated successfully.

• If you receive ‘Term Not Avail’ go back to Step 12 and try a different number within the specified range. The Terminal ID may be in use.

• Once you are in the Download menu options and you wait too long to take the next action, the terminal will timeout to the previous menu.

• After the download is complete, the terminal will reboot on its own. When at the VMAC Menu, advise the merchant to select the corresponding F key next to the SoftPay option.

When the connection is established and the terminal begins downloading, ten dashes (-) display, indicating the download status. As the download proceeds, the dashes turn to asterisks to indicate the download’s progress.

NOTE: The terminal returns to the main menu once complete.
