THANK YOU LETTERS
Mrs. Milnes' homeroom class sent thank you letters to fire departments, and Police departments across the United States as well as five Military members in the United States, Afghanistan and Japan. The military received gift boxes containing thank you letters and food. The students are hoping to receive
correspondence from the recipients. One of the military gift package recipients, Josh Villarreal, stopped in for a visit. Mr. Villarreal expressed his appreciation for the gift basket, answered the many questions asked by the 7th graders and encouraged students to do their best. The class will correspond with Josh for the remainder of the school year. This has been a positive experience for the students.
6th Grade Science Classes
In the beginning of October, 6th grade science classes were given the rare opportunity to experience an Occulus Rift virtual reality simulator. Rich McNinch, a local business owner in Sterling, brought his technology to Challand for the students to experience. One simulation was a journey through our universe which included a visit through our solar system and beyond. The students were also given the opportunity to experience a hillside roller coaster ride. A special thank you goes to Rich for sharing your passion for technology with the students at Challand Middle School! It was truly a unique experience for staff and students alike!
Free&ReducedLunch
As of Oct 1, 2015 all families that qualified for free or reduced meal service last school year have expired, unless you have completed a new application for this year or have been Direct Certified by the State of Illinois. Do not assume that you have been Direct Certified this year, just because you were last year. The State of Illinois has changed the Direct Certification qualifications, and the District is receiving far less direct certifications than we did last year. You may call the District Office at 815-626-5050 and talk to Julie Arreola who will help you determine if you qualify for this year".
