Still Bolstered by the Black Vote, Clinton WinsNew York as Campaigns Head for the Home Stretch

(TriceEdneyWire.com) - Thecontest for the next president ofthe United States took a signifi-cant turn this week as Republi-can Donald Trump andDemocrat Hillary Clinton bothtrounced their opponents in aNew York primary contest thathad been widely viewed as piv-otal.
Clinton, a former New Yorksenator, secretary of state andfirst lady, beat Sen. BernieSanders handily despite largeand excited crowds that cheeredhim in days leading to Tuesday’sprimary. Clinton won 57.9 per-cent to Sanders’ 42.1 percent.Clinton now has 1,424 delegagesto Sanders' 1,149. With superdelegates who have committedto voting for Clinton, she actu-ally has 1,893 if they remain loyal.It takes 2,393 to win the nomina-tion.Where Clinton and Sanders ap-
peared to split the White voteright down the middle, Clintonclearly led with at least 75 percentof Black voters, according towidespread reports based on exitpolls.
“The race for the Democraticnomination is in home stretchand victory is in sight”, Clintonjoyously announced.
“Senator Cruz is just aboutmathematically eliminated,” pro-claimed Trump, a native NewYorker and billionaire entrepre-neur, who reaped a whopping60.5 percent of the votes over 25.1percent for John Kasich and only14.5 percent of Sen. Ted Cruz.Cruz had been gaining signifi-cantly behind Trump in dele-gates. Trump now has 845 of the1,237 it would take to win thenomination. Cruz has 559 andKasich has 147.
After this presidential cam-paign that has been largelymarked by scathing personal at-tacks and name-calling, political
viewers will now watch closely asthe candidates compete in thefinal states until June 14. Andthen on to the Republican Na-tional Convention July 18 inCleveland and the DemocraticNational Convention startingJuly 25 in Philadelphia where theparty nominees are slated to beselected. President Obama Says Movements Like Black Lives Matter

In London, President BarackObama addressed a crowd ofyoung people to about activism,racial profiling and transgenderrights. He also threw some indi-rect shade at The Black LivesMatter Movement saying thatmovements have to be morethan “yelling,” the New YorkTimes.
“Once you’ve highlighted anissue and brought it to people’sattention and shined a spotlight,and elected officials or peoplewho are in a position to startbringing about change are readyto sit down with you, then youcan’t just keep on yelling atthem,” Mr. Obama said.
He added, “And you can’t re-fuse to meet because that mightcompromise the purity of yourposition. The value of socialmovements and activism is toget you at the table, get you inthe room, and then to start try-ing to figure out how is thisproblem going to be solved.”
