A bell rings and the opening hymn is said (or at home may be sung!)

All people that on earth do dwell,Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;Come ye before Him and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;Without our aid He did us make;We are His folk, He doth us feed,And for His sheep He doth us take.

O enter then His gates with praise;Approach with joy His courts unto;Praise, laud, and bless His Name always,For it is seemly so to do.

For why? the Lord our God is good; His mercy is for ever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood,And shall from age to age endure.

To Father, Son and Holy Ghost,The God Whom Heaven and earth adore,From men and from the angel hostBe praise and glory evermore.

Words William Kethe (d. 1594) from Hymnal: Day’s Psalter (1560)Tune OLD HUNDREDTH Louis Bourgeois (c.1510 – c.1561)

a tune from Hymnal: Genevan Psalter, (1551)

O Lord, hear my voice, for I have called to you; be my help.Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my Saviour!

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with youAnd also with you

CONFESSION AND GOD’S ASSURANCE OF SINS FORGIVENIn a moment of quiet we prepare ourselves to meet Christ in word and sacrament. Silence is kept for personal reflection.God the Father forgives us in Christ and heals us by the Holy Spirit.Let us therefore put away all anger and bitterness, all slander and malice, and confess our sins to God our redeemer.O Father, you come to meet us when we return to you:Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.O Lord Jesus, you died on the cross for our sins:Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.O Holy Spirit, you give us life and peace:Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.May Almighty God have mercy upon you, forgive you your sins, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.GLORIA IN EXCELSIS

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,we worship you, we give you thanks,we praise you for your glory.Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,Lord God, Lamb of God,you take away the sin of the world:have mercy on us;you are seated at the right hand of the Father:receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One,you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High,Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

CREEDWe believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father;God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who with the Father and the Sonis worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

The Lord be with youand also with you.Lift up your heartsWe lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

All kneel

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.From sunrise to sunset this day is holy, for Christ has risen from the tomband scattered the darkness of deathwith light that will not fade.

This day the risen Lord walks with your gathered people, unfolds for us your word, and makes himself known in the breaking of the bread.

And though the night will overtake this dayyou summon us to live in endless light, the never-ceasing sabbath of the Lord.

And so, with choirs of angelsand with all the heavenly host,we proclaim your gloryand join their unending song of praise:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and winemay become the body and bloodof our Lord Jesus Christ;who in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE, EAT; THIS IS MY BODY WHICH IS GIVEN FOR YOU; DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying:

DRINK THIS, ALL OF YOU; THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW COVENANT, WHICH IS SHED FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THEFORGIVENESS OF SINS.

DO THIS, AS OFTEN AS YOU DRINK IT, IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

Great is the mystery of Faith:

All sayChrist has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, 9

Page 10: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAll people that on earth do dwell,Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;Come

his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.

As we bring before you this bread and this cup, we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Lord, may this sacrifice, which has made our peace with you, advance the peace and salvation of all the world.Strengthen in faith your pilgrim Church on earth;your servant n our bishop, and all the bishops.

Welcome into your kingdom our departedbrothers and sisters, and all who have left this world in your friendship.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of Mary,

the virgin Mother of God, of James, Simon & Jude, and all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever,

through Jesus Christ our Lord;by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. Amen.

All say Our Father, who art in heaven,10

Page 11: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewAll people that on earth do dwell,Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;Come

hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come; thy will be done;on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

BREAKING OF THE BREAD

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

THE INVITATION

Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper.Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,but only say the word and I shall be healed.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek:to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Spiritual Communion is a Christian practice of desiring union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. It is used as a preparation for Mass and by individuals who cannot receive Holy Communion.

Say the following prayerfully and quietly before saying the Prayer for Spiritual Communion:Jesus my Lord, I thee adore, O make me love thee more and more.Come to my heart Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for thee.

A deep silence is kept

Take my life and let it beConsecrated, Lord, to Thee;Take my hands and let them moveAt the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet and let them beSwift and beautiful for Thee;Take my voice and let me sing,Always, only for my King.

Take my lips and let them beFilled with messages from Thee;Take my silver and my gold,Not a mite would I withhold.

Take my moments and my days,Let them flow in endless praise;Take my intellect and useEvery pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it Thine,It shall be no longer mine;Take my heart, it is Thine own,It shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pourAt Thy feet its treasure store;Take myself and I will beEver, only, all for Thee.

Words: Francis Ridley Havergal (1836 – 1879) Tune; NOTTINGHAM Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791)

THE ANGELUS:

AN ACT OF THANKSGIVING FOR THE INCARNATION OF JESUS

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary: And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary . . .

And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an angel, so by His Cross and Passion may we be brought unto the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
