“Hate Groups, Bias, and Action Steps: A Panel on Race and Ethnicity”

Wed, Sept 12th, 6:30 – 8:00pm in the dining Hall. Serious issues and tensions in our society today are again presenting us with the opportunity to understand the underly-ing causes of bias, ‘us versus them’ thinking, fear, and hate. The panel will be composed of speakers from local universi-ties with presentations on hate groups, implicit bias, and Catholic social teaching. Resources and representatives from local human rights and diversity organizations will be available for follow up information and opportunities. The Catholic Church teaches that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. How do we move forward to protect human dignity and build healthy communities and create a more just society? Free and open to the public. Sponsored by St. Joseph Charity and Justice Committee. Please call or email St. Joseph parish office at 509-926-7133 or [email protected] for more information.

Focus on the Family Wait No More Foster Care and Adoption Conference coming to Spokane Sept. 22. The foster care crisis in Spokane

continues to worsen. Recently, the state began housing foster children in Spokane in hotels because of a severe shortage of foster homes. The Wait No More conference is a call to the church to respond to its biblical mandates of adoption, hospi-tality and care for the lost and broken. The Spokane Father-hood Initiative (SpoFI), a local, faith-based non-profit, is a co-host of this event. The Wait No More conference includes a powerful and stirring call to families to take any of several steps to become involved. If 127 families commit to support foster care on Sept. 22, the foster care system in Spokane will be transformed! We will have flipped the list, creat-ing more foster homes than kids in need! Valley Assembly Church, 15618 E Broadway Ave, Spokane Valley, WA 99037, 10am to 2pm, Free; lunch included. Please register at www.waitnomore.org/spokane.
