Improving communication has been a high priority for the past year and will continue to be this year. Our initiatives during 2013-2014 have addressed the concerns you have raised with our school. You have raised issues formally in letters and emails, and also in our annual questionnaire. You have raised issues informally through discussion with me at the gate in the mornings, talking to teachers and governors and through our new parent coffee forums. We try to maximise the ways in which you can easily communicate concerns and complements too!

You asked us to improve the toilet facilities in school for all classes we worked with the county council and FoSS

to raise sufficient funds to create new KS2 toilets, including a fully accessible toilet, renovate and improve the KS1 toilets and create a corridor and new quiet work room

You said… we did……

You asked for governors to be more visibly active in the life of the school and more available to parents

We improved contact by inviting governors to serve tea at parents evenings

We organised regular parent/governor coffee forums at which parents were invited to meet informally for a sharing of concerns and positives too

We have agreed to put minutes of full governing body meetings on the school website so that parents can understand more about the work of the governing body. This will start this term

We have taken photos of our governing body to put on the school notice board so that parents and carers can familiarise themselves with them

You asked for more advanced notice of events coming up We added dates to every news letter and keep the calendar on the

website updated as our dates our confirmed Where possible dates are given as far in advance as possible, for

example sports day date for term 6 was given in term 1

You asked for more information about topics We put topic maps on the website for each class We share our curriculum on our website Our new curriculum will be uploaded this term We are training staff to add their own information and photos to the

website for their own classes

You asked for more daily information about what classes are doing We reinstated whiteboards outside classrooms for teachers to

communicate with you


You asked for more detailed information about your children’s progress

We added summary notes to parents evenings to keep discussion s focussed agreed at the end of consultations and enable us to refer back to them later in the year.

We revised and improved our written end of year reports to tell you about your child’s progress as well as their attainment and included information about the level of effort your child put into their work

Our new reports give you information about your child’s skills rather than what he or she has covered and identifies next steps in learning


You said you wanted improved behaviour management at playtimes and more for the children to do We introduced annual play leader training

for staff and pupils and set up playtime play leaders

We used Sainsbury’s vouchers to buy new equipment for playtimes


We revised and improved our playground supervision protocol and shared it with all staff and governors

We revised our behaviour policy and put it on the school website

We shared our school values and keep you informed about them in the Friday newsletter

We have replaced football goals for seasonal use at playtimes


You asked for more music and drama We introduced a second Musical Allsorts

concert at Christmas We introduced a school lunch time choir and

ran lunchtime school orchestra/band , performing to the village lunch club

We run a Look Who’s Talking drama club for years 4-6 in spring term with performance evening


You asked for more music and drama We linked with the Stonesfield Community

Choir and performed songs with them at events including the Village Fete

Guitar lessons are available to any child from year 2

All children participated in a drama performance at least once a year


You asked for a school library FoSS raised money for library furniture and

books and staff raised money for books through the annual book fair, furniture is ordered

The library will be opened after half term for use by all classes and the pre-school too

Governors, staff and parents helped us to paint the terrapin classrooms which house the library, saving the school a great deal of money.


You said you wanted us to capitalise on links with local sports groups

We already have links with Stonesfield Strikers who ran a KS1 football club and their player council meet here, we are developing links with Stonesfield Cricket club, Chipping Norton Golf Club and Witney Tennis Club

Chance to Shine Cricket last year KS2 encouraged children to join their local clubs and was successful

Change for Life club encourages less forthcoming children to join in with sports


You said you wanted us to capitalise on links with local sports groups

Miss Jenkins has made links with numerous local sports coaches who are being employed to teach throughout the year (including free after school sports clubs where possible)

We attend almost all possible sporting opportunities within our partnership of schools

London Welsh Rugby Club will be coaching in school as part of the ‘Talking Numbers’ programme in term 2
