Matter is made up tiny particles called molecules. They are constantly moving. They are held together by a molecular force. When the molecules move faster as when they absorb heat they may be able to break away from the force that holds them together. When this happens molecules spread out in the air gaseous particles easily spread.

What is matter made up of?

Page 15: Strategic Intervention Materials Presentation

Diffusion in liquid may be observed especially with colored solutes in water. Example dye in water. This ability to spread out readily is called diffusion. In this learning material matter you will find out what made up of matter, which states of matter easily diffused and which particles are constantly moving.

Page 16: Strategic Intervention Materials Presentation

Matter is made up of tiny particles or substance called

molecules.

Solid is compact

compressed and not free

from moving.

Liquid is free from

moving. It is a solution.

Gas is easily diffused they are constantly

moving.

* Diffusion is the ability to spread out readily.

ACTIVITY CARD

The Activity Card defines the task(s) that the pupil/student should undertake in order to develop a skill.

The task is competency-oriented and may be individual or group work.

The purpose of the task is to provide enough practice for the pupil/student so that he/she can perform the skill automatically. (Adopt the activity to the

pupils’/student’s learning style)

More about MatterWe use the phases of matter in referring to the particles nature of matter and diffusion which is the ability to spread out readily. Molecules is the smallest particle of a substance while atom is the smallest particle of matter. The Kinetic Molecular Model of matter describes matter as composed of particles which is constant random motion. This particle are separated by wide spaces.

Strategic Intervention Material on URINARY SYSTEM is a LEAST MASTERED SKILL on Grade V. When I introduced this lesson to my pupils, at least 80-85% of them got the correct answer. Therefore, it was a huge success in terms of using “SIM” or Strategic Intervention Material in our lesson. It makes their learning enjoyable and lasting. Also, it is very easy to replicate.  By means of this material, the pupils should be aware on what’s going on to human system. They would know the functions and the parts of the urinary system and what are the factors that affect our urinary system.  I was so surprised because out of 95 pupils, 85 pupils got the correct answer to all activities that I prepared. It was a big success in my part to use the material in teaching process for the learning of my pupils. It helps them a lot as a learning guide to understand the human body they possess. Although I’m spending a little amount of pesos to produce this it is still worth it, because it is a nice experience. And it is for the sake of the Filipino Youth.

1.       Kidneys- the kidneys are two brownish, bean shaped organs about the size of a fist, they weigh about 5 ounces. They are located in the upper right and left back part of the abdominal cavity. Each kidney contains about 1,200,000 microscopic filters called nephrons. Nephrons are smaller than the smaller dots. The main function or the kidneys are to maintain the water balance and to eliminate waste materials from the blood.2.       Ureters – the left and the right ureters are long muscular tubes. They are about 12 inches long with a diameter 2 to 3 millimeters. The ureters connect pelvis of each kidney to urinary bladder. They carry urine from each kidney to the urinary bladder.3.       The Urinary Bladder – the urinary bladder is a muscular sac that holds urine. It is located in front the pelvis and behind the pubis. As the bladder fills walls stretch signaling the desire to urinate.4.       The Urethra- the urethra is a muscular tube which carries urine from the bladder to the outside part of the body. In the female, it is a one inch long from the bladder to the cleft of the labia. In the male, it is several inches long from the prostate gland to the penis. When one is about to urinate, a value in the urethra relaxes to allow the urine to flow out.

These are the main parts and the function of the Urinary System.

Page 38: Strategic Intervention Materials Presentation

Of course, but not only junk food can cause diseases of the Urinary system.

Oh no!!! my brother Pedro enjoys eating

junk food. I must tell him to stop

eating junk food.

Teacher, is eating junk food bad for

the Urinary System?

Page 39: Strategic Intervention Materials Presentation

Teacher can you tell me the common diseases of the

Urinary System?

There are many diseases affecting the Urinary System. Some of these are Bladder

Stone (Vesical Calculi), Cystitis (Inflammation

of the Bladder), Tumors of the Bladder,

Uremia (Kidney Failure), Nephritis,

Renal Calculi (Kidney Stone) Pyelitis and

Pyelonephritis.

Bladder stones are small masses of minerals that form in your bladder. Bladder stones

develop when urine in your bladder becomes concentrated, causing minerals in your urine to crystallize. Concentrated, stagnant urine is often the result of an enlarged prostate, nerve damage or recurring urinary tract infections.

Page 40: Strategic Intervention Materials Presentation

Cystitis is an infection of the bladder. It causes burning sensations during

urination and a frequent need to urinate. The most common bladder tumor is

cancer.Uremia is a toxic condition resulting from kidney disease in which there is retention in the bloodstream of waste

products normally excreted in the urine.Nephritis refers to inflammation of one

or both kidneys. It can be caused by infection, but is most commonly caused by autoimmune disorders that affect the

major organs. Renal calculi is a common cause of

blood in the urine and pain in the abdomen, flank, or groin.

And lastly Pyelitis, Pyelitis is a disease of the kidney.

Page 41: Strategic Intervention Materials Presentation

At home while Pedro at Juan is playing…

I can’t concentrate because my lower

abdomen is aching.

Brother Pedro what’s wrong? You are usually good at building things.

Brother you should stop eating junk food because it’s bad for

your health. I’ve learn in school that you

can get many Urinary diseases when you

eat junk food.

Is that so? ok so from now on I

will stop eating junk food.
