    Intelligent Monitoring and Control Rendered to

    Street Lighting

    Industry of street lighting systems are growing rapidly and going to

    complex with rapid growth of industry and cities. To control and maintain complex

    street lighting system more economically, various street light control systems are

    developed. Nevertheless most of developed systems have some drawbacks. So we

    are going to develop new light control system which can overcome old systems

    drawbacks. We surveyed various street light control systems and analyed its

    characteristics. Through these e!orts, we found that common drawbacks of most

    light control systems are uneasiness of handling and di"culty of maintenance. To

    reduce uneasiness of handling and di"culty of maintenance in operating light

    control system, we designed new street light control system by using #igbee

    communication techni$ue. In this thesis, we describe on the %&W design of new

    street light control system designed by using #igbee communication protocol.

    We developed a prototype street light control system. 'eveloped control

    system is composed of ( di!erent units, centralied control system, remote

    concentrator and remote street light control terminal. )mong them, remoteconcentrator and remote street light control terminal are %&W based system and

    developed with same speci*cation we described in section +. entralied control

    system is developed for windows +--- based server system and most of developing

    works was S&W oriented.

    #igbee is rising communication protocol that can be used for wide range of

    application. )lthough it do not have broadband characteristics, its low price and

    ade$uate communication characteristics, for example low power consumption,

    makes it good candidate for communication protocol. ollowings are some list ofmain characteristics. 'ata rate / +0- kbps1+.2 3%4,5ower consumption /

    6-mW,'istance / up to 7--m )ccording to our survey on street light control system,

    data rate of maximum 7-kbps is su"cient. #igbee8s relatively low data transfer

    capacity is not make any handicap and we can reduce data rate to improve

    reliability of data transfer. Short communication distance also does not make any

    problem. Span between light poles are within 7--m, and this is su"cient for

    communication because we can transfer data to more long distance by reducing

    data rates. In this we have done additional applications the lights are going to

    9N&9 depend on the density of the light by using :ight 'ensity Sensors, and also

    to give the alert to the ;< stations if in case of any power failures and other

    identi*cation to the centralied stations.

    Remote Concentrator:

    In this unit is used to control the single street light. We use current transformer and

    potential transformer for measuring current and voltage of the individual lamp.
