What is Stress?
Stress is simply the mind
and body’s reactions to everyday demands.
It is called a psychosomatic illness.
What causes Stress?
Situations involving anxiety, frustration or tension will trigger a stress response.
STRESS-FACTAlong with cardiovascular problems,
stress can also cause -
• Fatigue
• Respiratory & muscular problems
• Skin problems
• Sexual problems
• Eating disorders
• Chemical dependence.
Open you mind
and your journal.
Let’s do some simple Stress-Math.
I. STRESS-MATH
One of seven Americans has a heart attack or disabling heart disease before the age of 60.
If the adult population were 63,000, how many would be affected? 9,000
II. STRESS-MATH
Two of five adults have hypertension.
In a group of 60 adults, how many suffer from hypertension? 24
STRESS-FACTStress releases fatty acids and
glucose into the bloodstream.
These become natural fat and cholesterol which is deposited on arterial walls.

Caffeine and tobacco raise
heart rate 14 beats per minute.
When combined with stress, the heart rate is increased to 38 beats a minute.

2. Each slide is self explanatory, but the teacher should run through the lesson prior to presenting it to the class.
