Strip Tracker cooling

Now running at 4C, stable. Low leak in SS2 Crucial for Tracker future the running at low

temperature after LS1 (more on Ettore’s talk) Cold test done this year is missing a flow measurement on

main circuit (to be done next TS) Upgrade needed for Primary Cooling (Evaporator; maybe

also Compressor) and for our two cooling plants (SS1 and SS2)

Understanding the scenario of running at -25C (not obvious for cooling system and for humidity in services)

Crucial decision this year (spring) for the lifetime of the detector - Good work of the Cooling Working Group

Perspective for 2012 pp running:High PU and 25 ns Operations

High Pile-Up High Pile test run very

successful We can take data with 5 1030

cm-2s-1/bunch at 110 kHz of zero bias L1 triggers (PU=30)

We expect to be fine for 7 1033 cm-2s-1, 50 ns bunch spacing environment

25 ns The SiStrip Tracker was

designed for 25 ns operations

Test runs were successful Small increase of OOT PU

Tracker status (1)

L.D. : Tracker status - TPO 22/03/2012

Recent Achievements Data for alignment:

0.75M good tracks with B=0 0.86M good tracks with B=3.8T

other 1.24M needed before June (=3.5 days of cosmics data taking)

DCU calibration taken IV scan done DAQ team fixed the problem of Tracker

configuration (see Derek presentation on Monday)

Tracker status (3)

Problems under work FED configuration problem (few FPGA not well configured) –

affect at low level APV-APVE timing mismatch

No change on Tracker hardware GT-TTCmi cables changed (1-2ns)

Past problems were solved with APVE firmware changes

S/N decreased of up to 5% in cosmics taken on peak Early 2012 cosmics in deconvolution were fine (timing seems fine) Evidence of radial dependence shown Offline producing more plots

Others TEC-4.8 looses clock/trigger time to time

Discussion with ring expert needed – Erik organizing that TEC+ interlock

Test still to be done – outside beams Noise vs bias scan Power Scan

Planned test during first collisions 3.5M events with one colliding bunch (first fill 1-

2h) Full HV-scan (2h) Delay run (0.5h, data ok for physics)

Conclusions and toughts

Tracker ready for collisions this year No problem seen for high pile-up not radiation damage DAQ is always under-pressure DCS is loosing people – going to central support

We need to be careful on evolution of dead parts Dead part at 2.25% (~1.3% in TIB) Parts without cooling to be better understood (thermal

instabilities / temperature) Cooling performance + radiation damage = lifetime of

Strip Tracker Tracker should survive up to LS3

On radiation damage: only few people working on it In INFN there are several experts that could contribute (many

participant to RD50)
