Letter of Appreciation

The new lettering on Cleveland Central Catholic’s Atrium wall reflects the essence of our Catholic education experience. “Learning to Lead, (and) Preparing to Serve” is a theme that resonated for our students and adults during the 2012-13 school year. Whether in worship, academics or community service, our students had a terrific year – and over 99% of the Class of 2013 graduated.

The good work accomplished last school year continues the astounding progress that Central Catholic has made over the past decade. Attendance rates, graduation rates, and college acceptance rates have all risen dramatically over this period. Most significantly, CCC’s enrollment climbed to 590 students this fall. This marks a 23-year high in enrollment, including a bumper class of 170 freshmen. This fall, for the first time in memory, CCC has a waiting list for applicants on each of our grade levels!

It is only through our faith in God and the generous providence received from so many caring sources that this has happened. We are grateful to the Diocese of Cleveland for its vision and commitment to the success of our school and our students. To quote Bishop Richard Lennon, “Our young people at Cleveland Central Catholic hold a special place in my heart. Their faith in Christ, bolstered by their Catholic education, gives them great hope for a bright future.”

Make no mistake. The challenges we face are serious. Four out of five (80%) CCC families live near or below the federal poverty level. Just one in three families has both parents present. One in six students (nearly 17%) has a special learning need. Yet, despite these trials, our mission moves forward, empowering our students to achieve and to believe in God’s plan for them.

This publication is aptly named the CCC Advancement Review, for it recaps and celebrates the advancement of our school’s mission. Its purpose is twofold. Most importantly, it is our way to thank those who supported the advancement of our mission during the past school year – whether financially, with volunteer service, or simply through their words and prayers. We thank the many individual donors, our corporate and foundation partners, friends and advocates, and the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland for their leadership and outstanding financial support of our mission.

This publication also serves as an invitation for others to partner with us in our mission. It is humbling, yet satisfying, to know that our work is impacting so many young lives. Whatever your contribution, please know it is important to our school, our broader community, and to the mission of Catholic education in the Diocese of Cleveland. Your investment in our mission makes dreams come true!

God bless,

Frank Zombek leo P. Hyland

“Cleveland Central Catholic provides a quality education in a faith-filled environment. We are in the mix of the city, serving young people and giving them a chance to explore opportunities and become something that might not have been possible otherwise. I was principal from 1994 to 2001. I am back as a part-time reading instructor because I love this school. I love the diversity here that I believe enriches the school community. Teachers really care about the students and want them to succeed. And the students know their teachers want them to become everything God has for them.”

“What I like about Central is that everybody cares about the well-being of the students – whether it be the part-time secretary in the office or the school president. They all have a vested interest in the students.”

“I actually had a daughter transfer from another high school she was attending. All I felt there was that I was an invoice number. I had actually met up with the principal one day, and she asked if my daughter had been thinking about attending. I looked at her and told her she had been there for two years and was a sophomore. That is the difference between that school and Cleveland Central Catholic.”

“Everybody knows everybody, and everybody has a vested interest in the students and in Cleveland Central Catholic. To that point, this past Saturday I was at an athletic booster program. Two parents there had children that had already graduated from Central years ago. They still come out to support the school.”

“People make CCCHS an amazing school. The wonderful young men and women who are students fill the building with a sense of appreciation, excitement and desire to succeed. The dedicated faculty – several of whom have made this their entire career despite having ample opportunities for more lucrative positions – provide a quality of education equal to that at any private school. The Administrative staff has provided guidance and support. The Advisory Board, most of whose members have no personal direct connection to the school, has shown an unwavering commitment to the mission of the school and its students.”
