It is a very startling truth about our human life that we are oſten called to do beer. The world is very hard on this point. In a homily of Bishop Matano he preached, “Remember the world permits every- thing, but forgives nothing.” This is something like the preaching of John – frightening. All of us have things that we could do beer. All of us have areas in which we can grow. All of us have those things that make us feel defiled, like violators, and guilty. This is not news to many of us. If this is news to you, then it is worthy of reflecon. We should not feel sick or strange just because we suffer a temptaon – this is part of our condion. Christ himself suffered temptaon and was strengthened by it. These readings begin our Lenten journey but apply here as well. John’s message was beauful, but terri- fying, but Christ’s is victorious and liberang. As we connue on this journey we realize the frightening rather easily – we are oſten preoccupied with it. However, it is in Christ that we confront these things, say no to them and gain life. Christ has removed the connecon of sin and death if only we are honest and courageous enough to confront our failings and shortcomings. We remember that the dishonest person will never be freed from sin for the simple reason that he or she will never admit that they need freedom. The raging person fears the end of his rage because he is afraid to see himself as the serenity reveals him. Be brave, be ready, but above all be honest so that God may make it possible for you to see yourself in your intended beauty, and through his grace, realize it in your life. Remember that God forgives in order that you become powerful in the Divine Life offered us. Pastor’s Note Please join us December 18, at 7 pm, for the Advent Penance service at St. Mary’s Church. Striving to know, love, and serve God in all others.

It is a very startling truth about our human life that we are often called to do better. The world is very hard on this point. In a homily of Bishop Matano he preached, “Remember the world permits every-thing, but forgives nothing.” This is something like the preaching of John – frightening. All of us have things that we could do better. All of us have areas in which we can grow. All of us have those things that make us feel defiled, like violators, and guilty. This is not news to many of us. If this is news to you, then it is worthy of reflection. We should not feel sick or strange just because we suffer a temptation – this is part of our condition. Christ himself suffered temptation and was strengthened by it. These readings begin our Lenten journey but apply here as well. John’s message was beautiful, but terri-fying, but Christ’s is victorious and liberating. As we continue on this journey we realize the frightening rather easily – we are often preoccupied with it. However, it is in Christ that we confront these things, say no to them and gain life. Christ has removed the connection of sin and death if only we are honest and courageous enough to confront our

failings and shortcomings. On this Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, we are en-couraged to rejoice. Gaudete Sunday derives its name from the opening prayer of the Mass for this day, where we pray, "Gaudete in Domino sem-per" ("Rejoice in the Lord al-ways"). So in the midst of Ad-vent fasting and devotions, we rejoice because the time we have been preparing for is al-most at hand. We pause in this season of anticipation to re-member that, in truth, our hopes have already been ful-filled. He is among us, saving us even now!

CHRISTIAN MEDITATION GROUP Thursdays, through December 20. 8-8:50 AM at Mercy Spirituality Center, 65 Highland Avenue, Rochester, NY. Newcomers always welcome. Facilitators: Lucien Cayer and Karen McNamara. Suggested Free Will Offering, $5. Regis-ter 585-473-6893.

CAN A STEPHEN MINISTER ...

… help you?

As you may know, we have just

commissioned 26 parishioners to

serve as Stephen Ministers. Ste-

phen Ministers are trained to be

good listeners. They are not meant

to be the people with the answers,

solutions or remedies; they are

formed to be the presence of Christ to a person who

is facing some life crisis. In the last few days, here

are some examples of people in your neighborhood

who have called seeking a Stephen Minister: “my

spouse has been bed-ridden for 7 years;” “I have not

been dealing well with the death of my mother;” “I

don’t seem satisfied with how my life has been going

the last two years.” Do any of these sound like

YOUR story? Are YOU trying to find healing or

wholeness after a life crisis? Contact Deacon Claude

to talk about the possibilities of meeting with a Ste-

phen Minister.
