File Folder Bridges One of the resources/activities on the West Point Bridge Design website is building a le folder bridge. The activity is called a Problem Based Introduction to Engineering. There are two bridge designs provided. One is a simpler A-truss design; the other is a more complicated truss bridge activity designed that gives students the opportunity to learn how engineers use math, science, and technology to design real structures. It is intended primarily for high school students, but those in lower grades should be able to complete all but Learning Activity #3, which requires the application of geometry, algebra, and some basic trigonometry.

All these activities are provided copyright free and may be copied as needed.

The pdf les from the West Point website have been combined into one le to save you download time. See the le folder bridge activities that are separate links on this website. There is also a PowerPoint le that provides directions for building the A-truss bridge.

Bridge CameraThis website lets you follow bridge projects around the world. Students can watch construction at construction sites that are using webcams to track progress.

Bridge VideosThese websites show bridges being designed, built, and/or tested. Both real and online bridges are shown. Searching youtube will nd videos for most bridge building activities. A few are listed below.

According to the author of the Garretts Bridges website, the video found at the website above is the best video about building model bridges. The presentation is given by Roy Coleman, the founder of the International Bridge Building Contest. The presentation is over an hour long. It shows how to build a bridge from scratch.
