CORPORATE PROFILE

Advance Aviation Training (Fiji) Ltd is a well-established school offering modern facilities with up-to-date training aids and equipment, based in the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) compound at what was once known as the ”Old Airport Club”. It is now called “The Club”, and “home” for A.A.T. students.

We are:- the first CAAF licenced flying school in Fiji, with original Certificate number 1- a Ministry of Education approved flying school- a Fiji Higher Education Commission recognised training institution - the first International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) 150hr CAAF approved school in Fiji- the agent in Fiji for Avfacts Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) books

Our new DCX Max Pro-motion and the Elite PI-158 Synthetic Flight Trainer are fully approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji for use in Instrument Rating Training.

Another training aid we use is computer-based Virtual Training Systems (VTS) to assist the student to understand various systems and procedures they will encounter during their training.

The school’s primary training aircraft are Cessna 150’s and Cessna 172’s which are single engine advanced trainers and the minimum requirement for a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) flight test in Fiji. The Partenavia P68B is used for our Multi-engine training.

Advance Aviation Training (Fiji) Ltd was founded in 2002 by Wayne & Deborah Hinton. Their aim: To be the leading provider of Professional Pilot Training in Fiji and to set the standard for flight training in the Pacific.

At A.A.T. our emphasis is on providing highly qualified instructors who have available to them a high standard of training aids, equipment and technical publications. Further, we plan to be pro-active in establishing new growth in the Aviation sector to create new jobs for our graduating pilots.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Advance Aviation Training (Fiji) Ltd offers courses in the following:

Private Pilot Licence (PPL)This licence allows the holder to fly for their own business or pleasure. You cannot gain employment as a pilot with this licence. This course can be commenced at any time and includes a theory course and a minimum of 40 hours of flying in a single engine aircraft.

Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL)This licence allows the holder to gain employment with the domestic airlines in Fiji.This course commences several times a year and includes an extensive theory course and a minimum of 150 hours of flying in both single and twin engine aircraft. At the successful completion of the course the candidate will hold a Fijian Commercial Pilots Licence with a Command Instrument Rating and a multi-engine aircraft Type Rating.

Fiji Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) Theory

This is a theory course only. Holders of a CPL must have passes in the ATPL subjects before they will be considered for a position with international airlines like Fiji Airways.This course can be commenced at any time after completing the CPL theory subjects and we recommend that all students plan to do these subjects as soon after their CPL theory as possible.

THEORY COURSE STRUCTURE

The theory is conducted in our classrooms at “The Club”, next to the Control Tower, Nadi. The subjects are presented in a combination of lectures and computer-based training with personal tuition available with our instructors. The subjects covered are:

Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK)

Aerodynamics Aeroplane General Knowledge Aeroplane Performance Local Meteorology Navigation Human Performance & Limitations

The BAK course is done as part of both the PPL and CPL courses. This examination is “in house” and is held at A.A.T.

Private Pilot Licence (PPL) Course

Aeroplane Operation, Performance and Planning Meteorology Navigation Aeroplane General Knowledge

The PPL examination is held at the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF). Subject matter from the BAK section of the course is also examinable again at this time.

Fiji Air Law – This examination in Fiji Air Law is set by and held at CAAF. Flight Radio Telephone Operators (FRTO) theory – The FRTO examination is held at our school

Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) Course

The CPL Course includes the BAK, FRTO and Air Law subjects along with more advanced subjects as follows:

Aerodynamics (ADY) Aeroplane General Knowledge (AGK) Aircraft Performance (PERF) Meteorology (MET) Navigation (NAV) Human Performance and Limitations (HPL) Instrument Rating Theory (IREX)

Each of the above subjects exams are held separately by the CAAF. Examinations, except BGT, are available using the Australian PEXO exam system each week. Any exam that the candidate does not pass may be re-sat after a period of revision study (usually 2 weeks) pending the number of attempts.

Fiji Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) Course

This is a theory course only. There is no flying involved in the course. The advanced subjects cover theory relating to the operation of large jet and turbo-prop aircraft. The course is done in a combination of lectures and private study, with assignments being set by the course co-ordinator. Some subjects also involve the use of computer simulation programs to familiarise the candidate with the cockpit environment of aircraft such as the Boeing 747.

The subjects covered are:

Navigation Meteorology Human Factors Flight Planning Aerodynamics and Aircraft General Knowledge Aircraft Performance

FLYING SECTION OF COURSES

Each of the PPL and CPL courses involves flying training. There is no flying conducted in the ATPL course. The minimum flight time required is as follows:

Private Pilot Licence (PPL) CourseA candidate must have a minimum of 40 hours (10 hours must be in command) flight time prior to being recommended for a flight test. An approved officer of CAAF conducts flight tests. Licences are issued by CAAF. If the candidate has not reached the required standard for testing then additional flying may be required.The flying is conducted in a single engine aircraft and our CAAF approved DCX Max Pro-motion and/or Elite PI-158 Synthetic Flight Trainer (SFT).

Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) Course

A candidate must have a minimum of 150 hours flight time prior to being recommended for a flight test with CAAF. Licences are issued by CAAF. If the candidate has not reached the required standard for testing, then additional flying may be required.

The flying is conducted in a single engine aircraft, our CAAF approved DCX Max Pro-motion and/or Elite PI-158 SFT and the twin endorsement is conducted in our Partenavia P68B aircraft.

COURSE FEES

The cost quoted for the theory courses includes all reference books, workbooks, lectures, computer based training, trial examinations and one examination fee per subject. Should a candidate not pass an examination an additional minimum examination fee of $250 per exam will be payable. A.A.T. also reserve the right to charge $250 per week of revision required to pass a previously attempted exam. Please refer attached for pricing.

PAYMENT OF ACCOUNTS

Students wishing to reserve a position on future courses are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of $2000 to confirm their position. All students are required to pay a further $28,000 prior to commencement of their course.

All flying training must be paid in advance. Payment plans for this balance of the tuition fees can be tailored to the individual’s requirements.

The school can supply support letters as required for scholarships etc.

EDUCATION STANDARD

The minimum qualifications are a pass in English and Mathematics (FSLC). Physics is not essential but may be an advantage. The Airlines generally need a minimum of 6th form in the above subjects.

The school also conducts an aptitude test for each candidate prior to accepting their enrolment. This takes approximately 90 minutes and bookings are essential.

MINIMUM AGE

The minimum age for flying training is 17 years

MEDICAL STANDARD

All candidates must undertake an Aircrew Medical with a CAAF approved doctor. The following doctors are approved:

The medical standard is a Class I for CPL and Class II for PPL (ensure your Doctor writes in Class 1 & Class 2 expiry dates)

IDENTITY REQUIRMENTS

All students are required to obtain an I.D. from Airports Fiji Ltd (AFL). The school will arrange this for you. You must first request a Police Clearance, in writing, from your local police station. You will need only a Police Clearance along with an application fee approx $60.00.

The student takes the police report and application form (obtained and signed by the School) to Security at the Airport and the I.D. will be issued. AFL will also charge a fee for this. (Approx. $30 yr. or $7 per month)

FLIGHT TRAINING PERMIT (FTP)A FTP is required before flying can commence. You will require:

Medical Eye Test Passport Photos x 6 Police Clearance Application form (from the school or CAAF)

AVIATION REFERENCE NUMBER (ARN)

Before sitting any exams with CAAF under the PEXO exam system, the school must obtain for the student an ARN that is issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) of Australia. To enable us to do this you will need to supply the following:

Fiji Passport OR Birth Certificate

UNIFORMSThe school requires students to wear uniforms. The uniform consists of navy blue trousers (or Sulu) and a white shirt with epaulettes. Master Tailors of Martintaar can make these shirts for about $25 each. Footwear should be black shoes or sandals.
