Mrs. Cooke is teaching Junior Kindergarten this year. One of her favorite things about St.Paul is how welcoming everyone is, and how it feels like everyone at St.Paul is a big family. Mrs.Cooke has also taught second grade in Smyrna, TN and kindergarten in Phoenix, AR. She was born in Nashville, TN and grew up in Brentwood. She went to college at Samford University and there she majored in Early Childhood Education. An interesting fact that you might not know about her is that she once applied for a job with the Secret Service. In her free time away from St.Paul, Mrs.Cooke enjoys reading, running, walking, spending time with her own children, and going on date nights with her husband.

Mrs. Groves was born in Nashville, TN and grew up in Brentwood, TN. She went to Harding University for college and there she majored in Early Childhood Education. She is teaching third grade here and loves it! Her favorite part about St.Paul so far is how everyone feels like a big family and how everyone accepts one another. This is Mrs.Groves’ third year of teaching. She taught for two years in Memphis at the Hutchison School for Girls. If she could change one thing about St.Paul she would possibly add some shade to the playground. Outside of teaching at St.Paul she loves doing crafts, especially holiday and home decorations. An interesting fact about Mrs.Groves is that she took ballet for eleven years here in Nashville and for one year with a company in Memphis. She really enjoys reading, walking, running, and going on date nights with her husband.

Mrs.Webb, our new second grade teacher at St.Paul, loves how she felt like she was part of the St.Paul family very quickly because everyone was so kind, welcoming, and helpful. She has also taught every grade level 1st-5th in Knoxville, TN, Roswell, GA, Nashville, and Brentwood. She was born in Schenectady, NY and moved around very frequently as a child. When people ask her where she grew up, it is hard for her to give a specific place. Mrs.Webb moved to Tennessee when she was in the fifth grade, and has lived here ever since. She also went to UT Knoxville for her undergrad and graduate school. GO VOLS!!!! Mrs.Webb has one pet, a golden retriever named Daisy who is seven years old. Outside of teaching at St.Paul, she loves to spend time with her husband and her two children, Tyler (3 1/2) and Avery (1 1/2). Something most people wouldn’t know about Mrs.Groves is that she ran a marathon in 2008.

Mr.Page teaches fifth grade history and Bible this year, and loves his new job! He was born and raised in Alpharetta, GA. He went to the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill. He double majored in history and English. When he first came to St.Paul, he loved how welcoming everyone was to the “new guy.” This is Mr. Page’s third teaching job. He has taught for three years at Mt. Pisgah Christian School in his hometown and for two years in Tennessee at Brentwood Academy. Outside of teaching, he likes to golf, read, and spend time with his family. Mr.Page says that he has been out of the country too many places and times to list. He does really want to play golf in St.Andrews, Scotland, though. Something many people wouldn’t know about him is that his full name is Stonewall Jackson Parker Page.

Mr. Pat is the kind hearted maintenance man who works so hard for St. Paul students and teachers! We got to know a little bit more about him during our interview. He told us that he enjoys the people at St.Paul and his new office. He has also been working here at St.Paul for 6.5 years.

He was born and raised in Los Angeles, and his favorite childhood memory is driving to his grandparents house in northern California. His favorite football team is the UCLA Bruins. A fun fact about Pat is that he loves to paint. Look to the right to see some of his work!

Alejandrina is a hard working lady. She grew up in Sochiapan, Mexico. She has three children, Alberto, Luis Alfonso, and Jose Hugo, and two grandchildren as well. She came to St. Paul eight years ago when most of us sixth graders were in JK. Her favorite thing to do during the summer is shop and talk to family. Her favorite food is fried chicken. Her favorite memory is watching us grow up. She loves listening to Christian music, studying the Bible and going to church. The sixth grade girls all remember having her braid our hair and she made us feel so special. We asked her where she would want to go if she could chose, and she said she would want to go to Florida. Next time you see Alejandrina in the lunch room be sure to thank her for all of her hard work. We are so glad we have you Mrs. Alejandrina, Thank You!

For the sixth graders: William Wheeler ran hard, Carter Wilson also made a great catch, and Dawson Flint made a great tackle on the CPA quarterback.

Coach Newton

At SPCA there are many sports, but who’s there to cheer the games on? The SPCA cheerleaders do it. To hear about cheer we interviewed Rachel Watson and Olivia Klindt. “Cheer is exciting and hard work. We practice many (2) times a week to be the best. One of the best things about it is leading the cheers. A cheer that is one of our favorites is Red Hot which a lot of you love too,” To all of the girls in 3rd grade: You should be excited for cheer next year. Go Saints!

Mid-State Football ReportThis year football in Tennessee in very good at the college level. The Vanderbilt Commodores are coming off their fifth bowl game in their history. Head coach James Franklin (right) has a very good recruiting class, including 4-star recruit out of Memphis Brian Kimbrow. The Tennessee Volunteers are also poised for a bowl season with star wide receiver Justin Hunter coming back. The Volunteers also have the honor of being in the opening game for the season.

Heisman FrontrunnersThis college football season is filled

with several candidates to win every college football player’s dream prize, The Heisman. Wisconsin running back Montee Ball was very close in the Heisman voting last year, and again this year he is right up there. USC quarterback Matt Barkley (right) is a favorite, and his All-American wide receiver he has to his disposal couldn’t hurt. Denard “Shoelace” Robinson was a favorite in the race, but he dropped out late due to poor play. We will see who wins as the season plays on.

Titans Preview

The Tennessee Titans have much optimism to start the season. They have a new young quarterback. He showed lots of promise in his career at Washington, and he had a very good season last year. He had a near 100 quarterback rating. Locker played in five games and he threw for more than 100 yards a game. Running back Chris Johnson (right) is poised for a great season, after he disappointed last season. Kick and punt returner Darius Reynaud looked very good in the preseason, with many good kickoff and punt returns. The Titans hope that they can live up to their fans expectations.

NATIONAL SPORTS NEWSAll about your sports news outside of the school.

Alex Renfroe

Team USA

Four years ago Alex Renfroe (bottom right) was a senior at Belmont. He was named an Associated Press All American. He signed a pro contract in Latvia. He received all first team honors in his league. After that year he signed another contract in Croatia. He led his team, KK Zagreb to an Adriatic League championship. He currently his having much success with team Enel Brindsi (Italy.) He is yet another Nashville pro athlete.

This year’s Olympics was a monumental one! It started with Michael Phelps’ gamesmanship with Ryan Lochte, and him trying to be the all time medal leader. To the “Fierce Five” for Team USA’s gymnastics, and Kobe comparing the 2012 basketball team, to the 1992 “Dream Team.” It was also filled with controversy. Ye Shewien crushed the competition in swimming. Usain Bolt dominated again, winning two golds in his sprinting, while retaining title world’s fastest man. Another Jamaican, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, won the World’s Fastest Woman. However, my favorite event was a very fun game called team handball. We play a variation of this in PE! The Olympics were definitely great this year!

TSU Tigers

The TSU Tigers are off to a great streak. They have a new stadium. TSU no longer plays at L.P. Field. Now they play at Hale Stadium. The players weren’t allowed to step onto “The Hole” until they finished practice for the week because the game is a reward for all of the practice Quarterback Michael German (below) is off to a great start. Wide receiver Telvin Hooks played great in their third win against Austin Peay. TSU is yet another good Tennessee college football team.

These fish are the very example

of horror. They can slither on land

and are tough to get rid of. These

creatures poisoned a pond where

the fish were. Later the fish

somehow came back. They are

spreading fast and can survive

without water for a good amount of

time and flop and slither on land.

Scary, I know. There are some of

these fish in Thailand. They are sold

frozen. They are also very protective

of their young. Their young have a

red coloring. Lucky for us, there are

not any in Tennessee. These fish will

not be coming to bite you, so don’t

be scared!

TAZIKI’S CAFE

I went to this little cafe near

school. This is great Greek food! I always get the “Lamb Feast” with

roasted potatoes. I have given you directions that I think are

easy to follow. The restaurant is clean and has a great selection

on its menu. They have a great dip with pita chips. Service is

very good, and the pictures on the walls are pictures of Greek

houses and goats. Some of the pictures include the sea. It takes a

small amount of time (10-15 minutes) to get your food. When

you get it, enjoy!

Above are the directions to the restaurant from school.

Walgreens. Then turn left at

the next road called
