Getting Started

What If?Your school just made an announcement that there will no longer be lunch breaks. Students must eat during class instead. No one has any idea why the school took away such a basic right. The principal says that he is in charge and knows what is best for the school.

The next week, the school makes another announcement stating that students are not allowed to use the bathrooms until 11:00 A.M. If anyone is found eating or using the bathroom at inappropriate times, they will be punished. No one can understand why the principal is using his power in this way.

Make notes about how this would affect you.

• How would you feel about these new rules?

• Would you say anything to the principal in your defense?

• Why would the principal think he could take away rights?
