Week 10 constructing journal During this week’s studio, we did go to visit the processing building Oval Pavilion. As I did the 3D drawing of the Oval Pavilion roof section, I have noticed several details about its roof section. Combined with the steel beams, timber, insulation and so on. Waterproofing is another feature of the roof section. Although we did not go into the building, we could still find that the main supporting of the structure is the steel columns. Strip footing is used to made from the reinforced concrete. Those walls around the building are made from the concrete. And the soil could be filled among these concrete walls. Also, the drain is designed for the water collection and drainage. Plenty of steel columns are shown in the picture to support the structure of the building and load the weight of the structure.

Week 10 constructing journal

During this week’s studio, we did go to visit the processing building Oval Pavilion. As I did the 3D drawing of the Oval Pavilion roof section, I have noticed several details about its roof section. Combined with the steel beams, timber, insulation and so on. Waterproofing is another feature of the roof section. Although we did not go into the building, we could still find that the main supporting of the structure is the steel columns.

Strip footing is used to made from the reinforced concrete. Those walls around the building are made from the concrete. And the soil could be filled among these concrete walls. Also, the drain is designed for the water collection and drainage.

Plenty of steel columns are shown in the picture to support the structure of the building and load the weight of the structure.

This is the roof section which I have mentioned above. Combined with steel beams, timber member and the plasterboard make the structure much more stable. Also, the noise insulation are great designed to keep the noise away. Waterproofing is combined with the flashing are used to prevent the water into the structure. Although it is quite unclear from the picture, from the 3D perspective drawing I have made last week, it is easy to notice that under the steel beam, there are several timbers to support the beam and also connected with the joint sealant with the backing rod and the flashing. The functions are quite different of these timbers such as supporting the beam and loading the flashing to prevent the water. Window frame is also shown in the picture and use the timber frame rather than the truss. Although truss is much more stable and could load the glass window more efficiently (Free State TimberSmiths, 2011)

Push and pull pipe make it convenient to load the structure and support the beams.

Bar chair which is made from the steel and is used to put the concrete. It is put on the ground slab. With great strength, flexibility, anti-static and environmental protection, this kind of steel bar chair can greatly improve the quality of the project, save cost and time. By using of steel bar chair, the construction time can be saved and the speed can be accelerated to reduce the construction cycle (Kamensteel, 2013).

The tongue of the connection in the structure which is used to make the elements of the structure could be connected with each other greatly and efficiently.
