Porters pub is one of the
newest pub and grill ad-
ditions downtown Lodi.
Post at the bar with it’s
unique polished metal
top. Plenty of bar seating
along with out door or
inside dining. Multiple
flat screen TV’s showing
all available sports
events.
A variety of Ales and
Craft Beers on tap along
with popular Banquet
Beers and local wines.
Food was amazing! We
are saying “THE BEST
WINGS IN TOWN!”
The servers were friend-
ly and efficient and the
owner, Scott Porter, is
pleasant and engaging
with all of his patrons.
Smack Pie is another
great addition to down
town Lodi as the only piz-
za joint around. What a
great concept!
The pizzas are made right
in front of you with your
choice of any of their
fresh abundant ingredi-
ents or you can choose
one of their designer
pizzas. The pizzas are
then cooked in a fire oven
for only a few minutes
and they are done and
“ADDICTIVELY
DELICIOUS!”
The price is amazing as
well at only $8.99 per piz-
za.
Nom! Nom! Nom!
Lots of draft and craft
beer on tap and a family
friendly environment.
Lodi Beer has been a
fixture in the downtown
for many years with a solid
and consistent reputation.
The beautiful buildings
architecture and bar make
it one of downtown Lodi’s
jewels.
The “SERVERS ARE
THE BEST”
and chances are you will
see them each time you
visit. They’ve all been
there a very long time
indicating that it must be a
terrific place to work!
All of the food is
exceptional from gourmet
salads and wraps to the 5
napkin burger.. Which was
named for the number of
napkins you will need!
Yum! Yum!!
Newest on the Lodi scene
is Shep’s Sports Bar &
Grill.
Shep’s is a the perfect
place to grab a cold beer
on tap or snack before or
after the show as it’s
located close to Stadium
12 Cinema.
The owners, Eric (Shep)
and Claudia Scheper, are
the “NICEST &
FREINDLIEST” people
you will ever meet!
The culinary chef
prepares all his own
gourmet sauces and rec-
ipes.
Shep’s does not attract the
typical bar goers . You
can watch and hear the
game on one of their 11
flat screens while the kids
enjoy a burger or snack.
We visited the most popular Pubs & Grills in downtown Lodi. They all deserve a 5 star rating in our book!

5 Genius Weekend
Beauty Treatments
By Fashion & Beauty Editor Audreana Lang
After a grueling work week, the weekend is a welcome op-
portunity to relax, hang out with friends or do some laun-
dry. But, if you can also squeeze in these quick and simple
beauty treatments you’ll see major improvements in your
skin and hair by Monday!
1. For Younger-Looking Skin: Try that new spin class
you’ve been meaning to take this Saturday. Aside from the
obvious tummy-flattening and mood-boosting benefits,
working out also minimizes wrinkles.
Why? Exercise helps support the production of collagen,
which keeps your skin smooth and firm. Just don’t blame us
if your coworkers start demanding your skin care secret at
work this week.
Highlights Hit the gym to minimize wrinkles. Stash your eye cream in the fridge to reduce under-eye puffiness. Apply a nourishing avocado hair mask to repair dryness, breakage, and dullness.
2. For Thicker Hair: Treat your scalp to a massage, which promotes blood circulation,
stimulating hair follicles and eventually boosting your strand count. Start with your normal
shampooing routine in the shower on Saturday night and gently knead and rake your fingers
over your scalp for about 30 seconds. Repeat Sunday night and as often as possible for fuller
hair.
3. For Brighter Eyes: Look for an eye treatment with caffeine on the ingredients list like Bliss
Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Eye Gel and stash it in the fridge this weekend. The cold
constricts blood vessels, reducing under-eye puffiness, while the caffeine detoxifies the thin
skin under your eyes, breaking up the baggage. Dab - don't rub - the cream onto your under-eye
area as soon as you get out of bed Saturday and Sunday to look more awake on Monday.
4. For Glowing Skin: On Sunday night, mix a pinch of turmeric with 2 tablespoons of ma-
nuka honey in a small cup, advises Jolie Martin, director and laser skin care specialist at Skin-
ney Medspa in New York City. “Apply the mask to your face and neck to stimulate blood flow,
draw out toxins, lighten dark spots, and kill bacteria,” she ex-
plains. Leave the mixture on your face for 15 minutes for radiant
skin all week.
5. For Shinier, Stronger Hair: Show your hair some love on
Sunday night with a nourishing avocado hair mask that’ll repair
dryness, breakage, and dullness. You can try a DIY version by
mashing up the entire fruit, combing it through your hair in the
shower, leaving it on for 10 minutes, and rinsing it out with your
favorite shampoo. Or, opt for a store-bought version like Kiehl’s
Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak, which is laced with
avocado oil that will leave your hair soft and manageable
throughout your 40-hour work week.

1. You Must Eat Less
Some diets may focus less on calorie counting, but the truth is you must eat less if you
really want to lose weight.
Losing weight starts with a simple calorie deficit.
You can create a deficit by simply
eating less total food, or by ex-
ercising more. A deficit of 500 cal-
ories per day over the course of one
week is 3,500 calories, or one
pound of fat! The more of a defi-
cit you create, the more weight loss
you will experience.
How do you know if you are eat-
ing less? Calories should be set be-
tween 10 to 12 times your body-
weight, depending on how much
weight you need to lose and how
much activity you do on a daily
basis. Don’t just consider your
exercise routine, but also the
exercise you do outside of the
gym .
2. Structure
Although some people don’t like the word structure when it comes to diet, every
successful diet has some. Even flexible diets have structure. Whether it’s the amount
of calories you are eating or the amount of each macronutrient you are taking in, these are
parameters that will lead to success. By keeping track of what you are eating, including
calories and the amount of protein, carbs and fats, you can make appropriate adjustments
when something is not going right. Structure to a diet plan can also ensure that you stick
with it. It’s hard to maintain your results. When you first start on any diet plan, you will
need to eat less and be restrictive with your choices, but once you have reached your ideal
weight, it is possible to eat a little more.
Remember that if you were dieting, it probably will not be possible to maintain your top
conditioning 365 days per year, but you should aim to maintain your weight within 10
pounds. Slowly start to add calories back into your diet—
4. Eliminate the Junk Food
The occasional cheat on junk food is a giv-
en when it comes to any diet, but the ma-
jority of the time junk food should be elim-
inated. Junk food doesn’t provide good nu-
trition because it’s loaded in sugar, fat or
both, and not much of anything else, so it’s
easy to see why junk food should not be
included as part of your diet.
If you are new to following a
structured, clean eating plan,
don’t go cold turkey!
Instead, ease off your bad eating ways by eliminating the junk food slowly. Limit
yourself to once per week. Come your cheat day, don’t go overboard and eat back
all the calories you eliminated. Instead, pick one or two of your favorites, or one
cheat meal.
By giving yourself a treat here and there, you will be less likely to go off your
diet completely, and feel much more satisfied with your new diet plan. It’s also
been shown that the occasional bad eating can help increase your metabolism and
keep it from down-regulating. This is called
“Adaptive Thermogenesis,”
which is when your body gets accustomed to the low calories you are eating and
starts to plateau, slowing your metabolism and storing or maintaining your body
in the same state. Busting out of this plateau can be as easy as having the occa-
sional cheat meal, so don’t be scared to give in every once in a while.
5. Maintenance Plan for Life
The ideal diet should
essentially become a
way of life.
It shouldn’t be so
restrictive that it’s
difficult to stick to or
it makes it
3. More Protein, Healthy Fats and Fiber
A diet that is focused on
building a healthy lean body
should be high in protein,
provide a moderate amount of
healthy fats and at least 25
grams of fiber every day.
As a general rule, follow a
diet that provides at least 1 to
1.5 grams of protein from lean
sources that are high in all the
essential amino acids,
including poultry, whole eggs,
lean cuts of red meat and non-
fat dairy like whey protein.
Protein is a necessary
nutrient for building muscle,
maintaining muscle and
assisting in recovery.
It’s also highly thermogenic,
which means eating it actually
burns calories!
Many people think they
should skip over the fat when
it comes to a diet, but this is
far from the truth. Fat is
essential for balancing
hormones and can even play a
role in helping preserve
muscle.
Lastly, a good diet will have a
whole of lot of fiber. Fiber
from fruit, vegetables, nuts,
seeds and whole grains is
important for maintaining a
healthy gut, and removing
toxins from the body. Diets
that are high in fiber can also
help reduce appetite and blood
sugar levels. Most successful
diets focused on building a
lean body provide about 40 to
50 percent protein, 30 to 20
percent carbs and fats.
By making slow adjustments you will be less likely to fall off your plan completely and fall back into old habits. Aim
for eating calories at about 12 to 15 times your new bodyweight, based again on your activity level and your new
metabolic rate.

Uber Ride Service Anyone who has spent
time in larger cities such as New York or San
Francisco knows how easy it is to get around.
Either through public transportation, a cab,
bike sharing programs, buses and other forms
of public transit. There are a number of
options when it comes to getting from Point
A to Point B. In Stockton and Lodi, however,
if you want to get somewhere, taking your
own car is almost always your only choice.
Uber is now open for business in the
Stockton and Lodi area.
This is how it works. This service provides a
ride to your destination through a private
driver service made possible by smart
phones.
Uber has become a quite a hit with residents
as well as tourists and busy professionals in
nearly every major city inside and outside the
U.S.
Uber provides a new, more convenient way
to get around if they are planning a fun night
out and don’t want to drive or just need a ride
somewhere.

Uber Service in Stockton & Lodi
Uber is made possible by downloading
the smart phone ap called “Uber Taxi”.
Using a smart phone app, riders can locate Uber
drivers in their vicinity, pick the driver they want,
and wait to be whisked away to their preferred
destination.
The drivers arrive in their personal vehicle and
have gone through backgrounds checks prior to
being able to provide services. Once you have set
up your account and plugged in your credit card
the payment , including the tip is linked to your
Uber account. Once you reach final destination,
all you have to do is get out...
No money exchanged!
Some additional Info on Uber
Uber has three levels of car services,
starting with UberBLACK and UberSUV,
which are more premium services that cost
more to use.
Lodi and Stockton have started out only
with the company’s UberX feature, which
is a much more affordable ridesharing
service that allows anyone with a car, a
license and insurance (and passing a
background check) the ability to turn their
personal ride into a taxi. In return, the
drivers get a chunk of the profit.
According to the drivers we spoke to, there
is never any shortage of drivers in the cities
they have launched in, and the Stockton
and Lodi should be no different. As the
market in area progresses, Uber could
expand service to include all three car
types.
It's very simple.. Just download the Uber
Taxi ap in your smart phone and within
minutes you're ride can be on it's way.
So Cheers to Uber and we hope you will
try and enjoy the service!
The new service is a potential game chang-
er for residents. Stockton and Lodi have
long been a cities where you can only real-
ly get around with your own personal car.
There is very limited taxi services, and bus-
es don’t reach everyone at convenient
times or locations, especially at night.
With the introduction of Uber, you can
head to the downtown for a movie, dinner,
a Port’s baseball game or out for a
beverage on the Miracle Mile and not have
to worry about battling for parking of
having too much to drink.
Style of Lodi Put Uber To The Test
Our editors recently tried the Uber ride
service for several weeks in a row to see
how the service works and how dependable
and consistent it really was.
We planned our evening in downtown Lodi
both times, obtaining a ride to and from our
night out. The experience was pleasant and
the rides all came within 5-10 minutes of
our request. Clean cars and friendly drivers
etc. The rates were below $10 total for a
ride from our home to the downtown area.
Our past experience with the one cab in
Lodi was a $10 cost for only one way. Ub-
er proved to be less than half the cost.
Overall a Great Experience!

Uber Service in Stockton & Lodi
Pets are an important part of so many
people's lives. They each have their own
unique personalities and bring happiness
and love into our lives and families.
In this issue of Style of Your City Maga-
zines, we asked our readers to share their
story and send in pictures and the story of
their best friend and how they have enrich
their lives.
Anna & "Cali"
You should see the difference from earlier this year. Anna was not planning on getting a
dog! Cali & Anna... its LOVE! Anna lost her two senior babies right now, but then saw
Cali's picture at Stockton impound. She was sad and scared and alone and Anna's kind
heart reached out to take her in and saved her life. Very hard on the scared ones to get
adopted. They named her Cali, as she reminded them of a California girl! She is now
Cali girl! She is HOME!
The Kane Family & “Kane”
The Kanes of Angels Camp have appropriately
adopted the pup named “Kane”, that was obviously
just meant to be! Karlee shared, “I want to give a dog
a better life than its had. I want to give a dog a life it
deserves. All animals deserve a home and family for
a lifetime and I can give that to a dog/puppy. My
husband and I have been wanting another dog for a
long time. We just bought another home that has 30
acres. We have been looking for a dog that will be
our companion and enjoy living on a ranch while be-
ing able to cuddle up in our home. This breed of dog
is perfect for us and our family. And getting a
young dog allows him to grow and learn on our
ranch.
My small family is finally ready to add a new member to our family. We have been
patiently waiting till the time would be right. The time is right, now that we own
our new home with 30 acres a new puppy can run around and play with us and be
able to do the things he was bred to do. Now the time is right we finally found the
right puppy. We can't wait to welcome Kane to our Kane Family." Happy Happy
Day for the Border Collie babies!
