IntroductionThis instructional module is designed to be used with third grade students. By using this module, students will have the opportunity to increase and reinforce their knowledge of subject and predicate.

ObjectivesThrough the study of this Module on Subject and Predicate, students will be able to:identify the subject correctly in sentences.identify the predicate correctly in sentences. How to use this module When using this instructional module, you should use the following commands:

Tell whether the colored part of the sentence is the subject, predicate, or neither.

The food smells very good.Subject PredicateHis father is a teacher.Subject PredicateLions roar in the forest.Subject PredicateThe eye doctor checked my vision.Subject PredicateDefinition of Subject Every sentence has a subject and predicate.The subject tells whom or what the sentence is about. For example; The house, The car, or The teacher.

What is a predicate? The predicate tells something about the subject.The predicate tells what the subject is or does. It is the place where youll find the verb.

For example; (The house) is white. (predicate) (The car) is blue(predicate)

(The teacher) loves students. (predicate)

Examples: Look at the sentences below. The white part of the sentence is the subject. The red part is the predicate.

Ashley walks to the park.The car is red.The dog barked.

This sentence is talking about the hero. Therefore, the subject is The hero. Lets find the subject. (Ask yourself: who or what is the sentence about?).The sentence is about the hero.The hero rescued the crowd.Now, lets find the predicate (Ask yourself: what is the sentence telling about the subject?).

Rescued the crowd is the predicate of the sentece. Lets Practice!Look at the following sentences. Tell whether the colored part of the sentence is the subject, predicate, or neither.
